MIAMI — Race was a factor in the death toll from Hurricane Katrina (search), Howard Dean (search) told members of the National Baptist Convention of America (search) on Wednesday at the group's annual meeting.

Dean, chairman of the Democratic party, made the comments to the Baptists' Political and Social Justice Commission. The Baptist Convention, with an estimated 3.5 million members, is one of the largest black religious groups in the country.

"We must ... come to terms with the ugly truth that skin color, age and economics played a deadly role in who survived and who did not," Dean said.

Dean said Americans have a moral responsibility to not ignore the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Katrina when it struck the Gulf Coast.

The former presidential candidate said the government will be judged by how it treats the old, the young and the poor.

"People are poor in different parts of the country. They are not refugees. They are Americans," he said.

Better for others to think you're a fool and remain silent, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

He is right. The Hurricane hit a place with a high population of black people.

Let me splain this to you, Howeird, in the simplest possible terms.

You already have the black vote - your current hate spewing is only driving more and more of the white vote away.

""We must ... come to terms with the ugly truth that skin color, age and economics played a deadly role in who survived and who did not," Dean said."

Sounds to me like he's claiming it wasn't the overwhelming force of a category five hurricane that caused the flooding, destruction and deaths, it was Bush.

It wasn't the lack of leadership and meek rescue efforts by the first-responders, the local and State agencies, it was Bush.

It wasn't the obstinacy and stupidity of the people who decided to remain below sea level in a coastal city with a cataclysmic hurricane spinning mercilessly towards them, it was Bush.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear that Dean, Hillary, Boxer and all the other rat-faced Democrats who are blaming Bush for the catastrophe were trying to instigate a racial uprising that would really push our country over the brink. But alas, I know better, these people are just honest politicians who want everyone to know the 'truth': Bush and conservatives are blundering, evil bigots and the Dems are the salvation of the 'oppressed'.

The SBC has thousands and thousands of it's congregations' members working and volunteering in the recovery meanwhile, this snively little white man shows up and demands stage time to go on a hateful racist rant in front of church leadership.

The same leadership that has serious concerns about the health and safety of their fellow men in the hurricane affected area, sat there wondering why this hateful little snarky man who ran a private medical practice for an almost exclusively white clientele hasn't volunteered through FEMA, the AMA, or the NHS to work in a shelter to screen and treat the evacuees.

The leadership of the SBC had to have been extremely insulted on personal, philosophical, religious and political levels by Dean's speech. The Dem's strategy of acting more religious isn't tricking nobody.

I expect the SBC to turn their anger against Blanco soon, once the regular dog and pony shows come through town offering as many hand-outs as usual for their political support.

Let's see, good Dr. Dean: Dr. Frist has been in Mississippi and New Orleans, helping victims and using his medical knowledge. What have you been doing, Dr. Dean? Oh, never mind, I would pity anyone who saw you as a doctor anyway.

There's something Frank Burns-ish about you Dr Dean...

Lake Panchartrain was filled with a special kind of water, invented by the Bush admininstration, that only drowns black people.

A thought occurred to me.

The Democrats have been worried about Republicans making in roads with black voters. I wonder if all of this race bashing of Bush is just a way to keep blacks on the liberal/Dem plantation?

Dean said that instead of considering proposed estate tax breaks, the Senate should channel the money into disaster relief. "Shall we give that to the wealthiest people in the country, or should we rebuild New Orleans?" Dean said.

Give it to them? Give it to them? It's their money, Howard! Howard Dean is admitting he is a thief, plain and simple.
