Red Cross Barred From Superdome and Convention Center

According to Hugh Hewitt, Major Garrett of Fox News is reporting that the Red Cross "had prepositioned water, food, blankets and hygiene products for delivery to the Superdome and the Convention Center in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, but were blocked from delivering those supplies by orders of the Louisiana state government, which did not want to attract people to the Superdome and/or Convention Center."

Explosive, obviously, if true. Hugh has interviewed Garrett, who says the report comes from "sources at the highest levels of the Red Cross."

UPDATE: Several readers report seeing this statement made by Red Cross officials. Jane Ehrgott writes:

I saw the woman who was the spokesperson for the Red Cross on tonight's Shepard Smith Report. She said on that interview that the Louisiana "STATE HOMELAND SECURITY DEPT." stopped them from going to the Superdome in the immediate aftermath. I was shocked. Kent Anderson writes:

Your story on the red cross being barred from nola was confirmed wed morning by an official spokesperson of the red cross on the diane ream npr show. a caller inquired if it was true and she (the spokesman) replied unequivocally that it was true. UPDATE: David Kolbe sends a link:

A Red Cross official, Carol Miller, said on NPR's Diane Rehm show this morning that the Red Cross was told not to provide aid at the Superdome by the Louisiana, not U.S., Department of Homeland Security. Audio here: http://www.wamu.org/programs/dr/ (click link on left side of page) the comment is about 35:40 into the show

I again repeat my call for an investigation into the Hurricane Katrina fiasco. I think it should be carried live on all major tv networks, so the incompetent, corrupt, Louisiana gov't machine can be exposed for all the country to see. The federal gov't did not distingush themselves either, but it is becoming more obvious by the day that it is largely their failure to anticipate the total incompetence of which caused a slow federal response. They assumed the state and local gov't would provide at least a minimal amount of competence.

Oh, goody! Now we can sit back and watch the MSM ignore the story.

Somehow it has to be Bush's fault that the Governor and Mayor in Louisiana are idiot democrats.

I guess I am having a hard time figuring out where State Rights enter into this. Is it the Federal Gov'ts job to clean corrupt and inept politicians from the NO city council? Do the residents of these places need THAT MUCH Fed intervention in their lives?

Well, it sure seems at least a couple of LA gov't officials may find themselves in JAIL by the time this all shakes out!

I wouldn't get too excited about this.

What if someone "gets to" the RC and explains what will happen if they don't "get their mind right."

The RC may not be political, but they sure ain't conservative. If you know what I mean.

I saw the Red Cross Rep say this on the Fox News last night. She said that they LA Dept of Security would not let them go in and they did not want the supplies there because then then people would be drawn there instead of leaving the city.

It is a concentrated effort now by the radical left to simultaneously strike from ALL SIDES using the "boo-hooing touchy-feely" groups to pass on their LIES to further denigrate the United States Military personnel, and of course, the constitutional republic of the United States so they can form their Union of Socialist States of Amerika (USSA!)

There has been a rash of these appearing in all the media print, internet, tv and radio --- All at once!

I'm just really confused. I was under the impression the Superdome was the place of last resort for people to seek shelter. Matter of fact, didn't I read people were being picked up by buses where they could ride out the hurricane there? If the Superdome wasn't supposed to be used as a shelter of last resort then why were they accepting people, why did they provide MRE's the first day and why was the National Guard there?

As more and more information comes out it just shows how incompetent and unprepared NO was. Weren't they allocated funds under the La. Homeland Security Act for the purpose of securing Louisiana in the case of just such a natural disaster?

Have I misunderstood something? And what the hell were these officials in La thinking? That they lived in never-never land and a hurricane would never affect them? They have lots of blood on their hands.

Well, Major Garrett works for FOXNEWS and all the other liberal networks ignore FOXNEWS, so this really isn't news. Jon Stewart's "news program" carries more weight in the MSM than FOXNEWS.

You're right, but I don't think it will happen that way. The early calls by senior Dems for an investigation was because they thought they finally had something to beat up Bush with. Now, as more and more information comes out that the poor response was because of incompentent Dems at the state and local level look for the calls for a Congressional investigation to cool.

Yes, he should have known that and had a PLAN for working around them. The dems think Pres. Bush is either as dumb as a doorknob, or the smartest man in the world.

I agree with you completely. And as far as the MSM and the Democrats are concerned, screw them. We know what their agenda is.
