Yes, it was on Larry King on 9/2. The transcript is at:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0509/02/lkl.01.html

KING: We're back.

Joining us now in Washington is Marty Evans, the President and CEO of the American Red Cross. She traveled with the president today. The Red Cross is not in New Orleans, why?

MARTY EVANS, RED CROSS PRESIDENT AND CEO: Well, Larry, when the storm came our goal was prior to landfall to support the evacuation. It was unsafe to be in the city. We were asked by the city not to be there and the Superdome was made a shelter of last resorts and, quite frankly in retrospect, it was a good idea because otherwise those people would have had no shelter at all.

We have our shelters north of the city. We're prepared as soon as they can be evacuated, we're prepared to receive them in Texas, in other states, but it was not safe to be in the city and it's not been safe to go back into the city. They were also concerned that if we located, relocated back into the city people wouldn't leave and they've got to leave.

KING: Marty, everyone looks at themselves when they're working in some kind of tragedy. Is the Red Cross examining itself saying could we have done more?

Notice how Larry conventiently ignored the impact of what Ms. Evans was saying and he quickly changed the subject.

I shudder to think that the Dims would starve people in order to have a story to smear President Bush. Hmm...I guess I almost forgot about Ted Kennedy drowning that girl...Yes, I can see the Dims doing this on purpose.

This is a significant story. I think some pub politicos in DC ought to start going on the offensive and get this stuff out in press conferences, and on the Sunday circuits.

JMHO, but to hell with the 'new tone'....and forget about the 'rope a dope'. Start playing 'good cop, bad cop' if you want to 'strategerize'.

The dems are in full frontal attack mode, using their accomplices in MSM to spread lies and half truths. NOLA is a direct indictment of failed liberal policies since the Great Society, and the dems understand that the best defense is a good offense.

Its time to counter this stuff.

DIMS:"We all need to come together now..."

DIMS:"Don't you think it's time to just move on..."

I am so glad it appears as if the curse of Kathleen Blanco will be over relatively soon. If you are from here, you know that she should have never won that election. For those of us with first hand experience having met her, or had dealings with her already know she is not at all bright and totally unqualified for the job.

A lot of people voted with her because of her husband, who already had name recognition in the state. Many knew he would be running the state from behind her back, but even he is not all that competent. Just a good 'ol boy and part of the Dem machine that keeps itself in power on the banana plantation known as Louisiana.

The word that comes immediately to mind to sum up Kathleen Blanco, having met her is; sappy. I can see this decision being made and seeming totally appropriate to her.

Well, yes. In fact they have grown so used to the federal govt. intervening in their lives they can't even function. Obviously.

A Red Cross official, Carol Miller, said on NPR's Diane Rehm show this morning that the Red Cross was told not to provide aid at the Superdome by the Louisiana, not U.S., Department of Homeland Security.

WOW. I just listened to the NPR archive. Rehm completely ignored the comment and moved on the "Looking for reputable agencies for donations". Had Miller said it was NATIONAL DHS, I'm sure the MSM would be screaming it from the rooftops

When I heard about the Red Cross being banned, I thought they were being banned today, so people would not stay in the city any longer.

I've been questioning this funding issue since this happened. All of the states and locals (city/county) has been given tons of bucks since 9/11 to get there plans together and purchase communication gear for just this kind type of event. I don't think this starts and ends in NO or LA. There needs to be an accounting of where the money has been spent all over the country.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite
