the Christian cross can be very generic and so can the Islamic crescent...you don't need the star... if you check out Islamic flag you see crescent in all shapes and form with and with out stars..
Actually, the symbol for Islam is a crescent and star.
But you are correct. The use of a crescent is a little too close to the symbol of Islam for my liking.
The designers should have recognized this and further more, the jurors should have seen this as well.
