The attached photos of the devastation of Pascagoula show the effects of Katrina’s power. Brenda Davis and Brenda King took these photos during their 1st trip down on Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 to carry food.

In some of the photos you will see remains of where homes were, and also some of the frames of the homes that remain. Even though you don’t see the water lines on the homes, the water was there, and anything remaining below that water level is gone, washed out to sea. Everything on first levels of most homes were affected. Baby carriers hung from trees, chandeliers from someone’s home also hug from limbs. Trash, clothing and debris, were caught in trees and swinging from anything left standing. My first thought was, where’s the baby that was in the carrier? Oh my God, how did those people survive?

People have no where to lodge, many are camped out under tarps, tents, and have no chairs to sit in or table to sit at. Many would appreciate just a plastic table or fold up chair, just to be about to sit down, somewhere other than the ground. Those who are fortunate enough to have a home left that is salvageable, are sharing with others, using their homes for locations for supplies to be stored and distributed. To them a tent canopy would be a luxury, to be able to put up to have a shelter over their heads, while they try to salvage and see if their homes could possibly be saved. They are begging for hammers, saws, and tooling to use to remove debris from their property and homes. Duck tape, packing tape, sun glasses, tooth brushes, tooth paste, and hair brushes. Everything we use everyday for hygiene.

Water is not as much needed now, they are getting it brought in, but food is still the top priority. Canned food regular size is better than large cans. When they open large cans, they have no means to store the extra left.

Children who now have no homes to speak of, do not have any of the things available to occupy their minds. No only are they scared and terrified by all the hurricane damaged, and they have nothing to help take the stress off their minds. Items to help them like: coloring books, crayons, small toys, games, even some bicycles would be greatly appreciated. Personal hygiene items for both men and women are definitely very need. baby diapers, pull ups, baby bottles, body/baby wipes, baby shampoo, and everyone needs sunscreen. Sleeping bags, peroxide, ammonia, soap, multi-pack matches, small battery radios and extra batteries, zip lock bags, gallon size, plastic utensils, plastic cups, plates, Neosporin, polysporin, band aids, hand sanitizers, tooth paste, toothbrushes, disposable razors, and many other items. Many people have asked for Bibles and children’s bibles, and bible story books.

Lieutenant Davy Davis, of the Pascagoula City Police lost everything, his home, his vehicles, but he is there, helping distribute supplies and helping his family and others. ( Lt. Davy Davis photo to the right) He very much needs a vehicle just to be able to help his community and city. Hopefully someone can find him a vehicle to use. It would even be wonderful if a dealership somewhere would donate him a vehicle to use.

Some people have returned to see their homes, only to just turn around and leave. The only identifications you see are where some of those people have written their addresses on the outside of their homes or on signs left in their yards, saying they will never be back, that they are just thankful for their lives, and are going on to start life over somewhere else. And one photo will just break your heart, it shows a home with the words hand written on the outside wall “GONE TO GLORY” with a wheel chair and walker turned over in the yard. That family did not survive.

Cleanup has already begun with some machinery that has begun pushing debris off the roads and into the yards of the destroyed homes. They are clearing the roads so supplies and help can get in. The smell of mold is everywhere, along with the smells of sea water, dead crabs and sea animal that remain in what’s left on the ground and in swimming pools. Everywhere you walk, everything you touch, people must continually wipe and disinfect themselves, in order to avoid infections and diseases. This is a #1 problem, cleaning yourself up, after touching just about anything.

Mosquitoes are breeding rapidly and many people are asking for bug spray and hand sprayers, and Clorox and other disinfectants to use for sanitation and cleaning. They need plastic containers for storage of food and supplies, remember without power, anything electrical will not work. Plus everything on ground levels was under water, so all freezers, refrigerators, stoves, are salt water ruined. Imagine that everything you have has been under salt water has been damaged beyond use. So plastic containers are a necessity at this point, for the victims to be able to store food and supplies.

You can see the trees in the photos, with dark brown leaves and needles, are painfully dying from being covered with all the salt water. The hurricane just came in and took everything these people had and washed it out to sea. The power of this storm and the amount of territory is something I find very hard to comprehend.

Please call your friends and neighbors, your fellow church members, and your work associates, we are collecting for another trip within the next week.

Money Donations should be made out to New Town Baptist Church, 3969 Paoli Road, Carlton, Ga. 30627

We have to get the Prez to put a muzzle on the EPA
and get DDT sprayed down there ASAP

Before the mosquito borne diseases hit...

Anti-DDT was a triumph of the satanic.

I've read scientists reports that show that it was the least intrusive of the insect barriers.

This is an excellent point! They should muzzle EPA and spray DDT on the Gulf coast.

I wonder when these folks will be getting their $2,000 debit cards?

I'm making a trip down to Pascagoula this weekend to help my brother sort through what is left of his belongings. Not my idea of a "day at the beach".

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

I'm making a trip down to Pascagoula

If you get the chance, I'm interested in what the 1400 block of Cherubusco Street looks like. I have a friend in Pascagoula and I haven't been able to get a hold of him.

...to help my brother sort through what is left of his belongings.

My condolences to your brother, Snoitan5. I hope he can rebuild.

The areas south of New Orleans where the Mississippi empties into the Gulf have not received any attention either. Check out this that I found from one of NOAA's more recent photos:

They are literally begging for help.
