Mississippi Power employees and outside workers have restored service to 76 percent of the company's customers who can receive power.

But if the lines are down, they can't receive power so they disappear form the percentage calculation? Very wierd way of wording it.

there has just GOT TO BE a way to defeat these storms before they can grow into such monsters and inflict such horrific damage . Hurricanes are basically pressure systems run amok , are they not? Why not use Thermobaric , pressure, weapons to disrupt the Eyewall formation when they are just forming ?
It's worth a try . Experiment with different patterns of detonations and places along the Eyewall , as soon as a storm has one. See what happens . This idea is immediately poo-pooed
by most I know , but has it been tried? It should be.
I am convinced that mankind can eventually control the weather on this planet. And we should.

Thank you for the headsup, FMC.

Have you heard yet about your relatives down there?

A coworker has brought to our attention an evacuee whom I think is from the Picayune area - going phonetically, we're not sure if that's the right town. This gal flew in with her 7-m.o. baby and is staying with her mom who lives here. Our department and our families are doing what we can for them. She's starting out from scratch with no idea what her immediate future holds.

I thought I remember back in the 70's that there were some of these very efforts being made. I don't recall if they ever used weapon technology, but I do recall dry ice being mentioned, and different ways to raise the ocean temperature just a few degrees. Some have even mentioned the use of satellites with large mirrors and deflectors.

If, as some are predicting, that we are heading into a decade of this kind of destruction, than it might me a good idea to get some people on this.

I think the thermobaric , fuel/air weapon technology of today is far far advanced of anything we ever had previously.
My brother who is a retired USAF weapons engineer seems to think there could be some recourse here.
