Wendy's Disaster Relief Efforts

Members of the Wendy's Family are coming together to help one another in the wake of the devastation and loss from Hurricane Katrina.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by this terrible tragedy. We're working to locate our employees and assisting them in this time of urgent need," said Tom Mueller, president and chief operating officer of Wendy's North America.

Wendy's is reaching out to the estimated 2,500 Wendy's employees who are out of work as a result of the storm. Our biggest challenge is to locate these employees and make sure they and their families are safe. Toll-free numbers have been established and we are urging these employees to call: 888/977-3256 or 800/720-4082. If you're an employee from one of the affected restaurants, please click on the link below for more information.

Company employees that have been impacted by Katrina will continue to receive their paychecks. Wendy's will attempt to find alternative employment for those who have relocated. Each company employee will also receive a stipend to help them meet immediate, pressing needs. The cost of these efforts is expected to exceed $2 million.

In addition, Wendy's is establishing a relief fund for employees of the franchised restaurants that were affected by the storm. Members of the Wendy's Family are welcome to contribute to this fund, or to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army or other disaster-relief organizations.

Ok, but with the turnover rate, how many of their employees weren't planning on showing up to work after their second week of work anyway?

They just got my business for doing that, bet they get more PR out of it than a couple of ads on superbowl Sunday, at about the same cost.

Glad to see they are willing to lift a finger to help, no matter how chili their public relations have gotten.

They have better food anyhow in the fast food sweepstakes. I alway thought of them as a conservative company like Orek. Interesting that both of them are doing so much for their employees.

This is off the subject: but has anyone heard of the unions doing anything at all regarding contributions?
