One of the other threads has a post by the son of a passenger. He seems to have no problem with it. Maybe many of the families...average Americans...are not as astute to underhanded maneuvers (or simply not as schooled in geopolitics) as those of us who are more politically active. They could likely take the warm & fuzzy rhetoric of the architect at face value, and be completely unaware of the nature of the underlying symbolism.
I have a feeling if the designer had shown the memorial from a different angle there would have been a gasp of horror instead of a gasp of approval when it was unveiled. It's not hard to see why some view this as a tribute to the terrorists...
Below is a flipped, mirrored, and rotated pic of the memorial - as will be seen from the air approaching from the other direction... As someone on another thread pointed out there is a stand of trees close to where the star would be.
My apologies to those whose family members were killed in this tragedy, but I think someone is playing a sick, sick joke here...
