Four Years In (Never Forget!)
Real Clear Politics ^ | 9/11/2005 | Jed Babbin

Posted on 09/11/2005 6:05:00 AM PDT by kellynla

It's now four years since 9-11. Four years since we watched, horrified, as the second airliner hit the World Trade Center tower, since a pal called me to say he was standing out on his balcony watching the Pentagon burn. You can forgive yourself if those images, though etched permanently in your mind, also seem faded into the mists of time. This week end, everyone who loves the freedoms they enjoy should take time to remember 9-11, because we dare not forget.

When we remember 9-11, we need to remember it in the context of who we are, and who our enemy is. George Bush's America, in the last four years, has freed more Muslims from tyranny and oppression than any Muslim nation - including Saladin's empire - ever did. It is not only that we did so by defeating some few of our enemies, but we did so according to our own values and ideals. We fight not to pillage or enslave others, but to end the threats they pose to us. The American ideology is one that places freedom - real freedom, the freedom of self-determination - above all other values. As Thomas Jefferson described these freedoms in the Declaration of Independence, these are our unalienable rights endowed by our creator, not by the whim of any tyranny.

"The great French writer, Jean Francois Revel, wrote that, ""Clearly, a civilization that feels guilty for everything it is and does will lack the energy and conviction to defend itself." Our enemies count on us to be governed by that weakness. As we remember 9-11, we must re-dedicate ourselves to proving them wrong. By every objective standard, our values, our freedoms, and our system of government are better than theirs. One key to winning this ideological battle is to remind them - and ourselves -- of that fact every day."

This is Juliana McCourt (age 4) and her mom, Ruth Clifford McCourt. They both died on Flight 175.

This is Ruth Clifford McCourt and her friend Paige Farley Hackel (left). Paige died on Flight 11.

I knew both of these women. Ruth had been my wife's boss in the 1980s, and Paige was a friend of my wife's family.

I can't say I knew either of those women well, although I had seen them both socially many times. And I never met Ruth's little girl Juliana, who was a year older than my own daughter.

But even now, hardly a day goes by that I don't think of them and their horrible fate. Especially that beautiful little girl.

I just thought they should be acknowledged here on the anniversay of their deaths.

"George Bush's America, in the last four years, has freed more Muslims from tyranny and oppression than any Muslim nation - including Saladin's empire - ever did."

"What Yusef al-Quaradawi preaches in Britain, thousands more preach in dozens of other nations around the world. To the radicals and the terrorists they support, their ideology is viable. Their devotion to it is undiminished. And they believe, with a firmness that idealizes death for their cause, that it will defeat us because our will to fight is inferior to theirs. The only answer to them will be our constant devotion to our freedoms, and the pride we show in those freedoms. And in this we have, so far, failed in our resolve.

"Four years into this fight, a lot of Americans, led by the media and some hollow men and women we have elected to public office, have fought the ideological battle by small surrenders. They remind us, daily, that we aren't better than anyone else, that our system of government sometimes fails to protect the rights of all, and that we should be more open and understanding of others' religious beliefs no matter how twisted or irreligious they may be. Those people need to be reminded, again and again, that America has succeeded, and we enjoy the freedoms we do, only as long as we are willing to say certain truths. Among those truths is that our system of government, our values and our laws are superior, by every objective measure, to those our enemies impose on themselves and would impose on us.

"We can ignore neither the founding principles of our nation or the ideology they comprise. And sometimes we must look to others for the best statement of it. Late last month Peter Costello, treasurer of Australia, said it better than anyone has in a very long time. Saying that the only law in Australia were those made by its parliament, Costello said, "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Shari'a law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you…I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing Australia, one the Australian law and the other the Islamic law, that that is false. There is only one law in Australia: it's the law made by the parliament of Australia and enforced by our courts. There is no second law."

"Our society is an immeasurable success because we enjoy freedom, and the terrorist nations that are our enemies are utter failures because their peoples do not. It has no bearing on our wealth. Many of our enemies are just as wealthy as we and, by the measure of their effortlessly obtained oil wealth, some are wealthier. Yet their peoples, with the exception of the despots that rule them, live under oppression, in constant fear and without hope. It is our ideology of freedom which makes us prosper, and their ideology of religious oppression that makes them poor."

Just turned on tv. It's shocking that only Fox had the Arlington ceremony on at first, so we could hear the Anthem being sung, and the commentary at first.

Msnbc dragged their feet getting to it, then had Doris Kearns Goodwin speaking over the moment of silence.

Cnn isn't even pretending to cover it, they're showing people being rescued in NO, as if 911 never happened.

Not easy for many Americans to remember 911 when most of the media wants us to forget.

My daughter, FReeper NattieShea, was walking down the stairs on her ninth birthday, only to see the twin towers burning. On that day, she became a patriot.

Today, at thirteen, she studies the fall of Rome, does college calculus, and shoots two-inch groups with a 357. This kid knows it's a war and is getting ready.

This war may go on for decades, until Islamo/collectivism is defeated. By that I mean, along with Islam we must defeat its useful communist idiots here at home. Make no mistake: the Islamists are preparing their next generation and the communists have the bulk of ours. Unless we are preparing our kids for that battle as we fight ourselves, we will lose.

Contrary to what the MSM does, you and I and millions of Americans around the world will always remember 9/11 and Never Forget!

I am off to Mass to pray for those who lost their lives and to pray for their families.

God bless them all.

Kelly

I have to say I was a little annoyed at Father this morning at Mass. We had a moment of silence for the victims and families of the 9/11 "disaster". He made it seem like it was a hurricane or an earthquake - a disaster my @$$. It was a terrorist attack, call it like it is.

Well we remembered not only those who died on 9/11 but also those who died from Katrina and those who have paid the ultimate price in Iraq & Afghanistan.

As far as your priest is concerned you might want to call him and remind him that 9/11 was a terrorist attack and not a "disaster."

We did that too and I had no problem with any of that wording. What annoyed me was his "disaster" comment.

It's time to call these idiots out... in public if necessary. If he knew he was going to get his rhetorical butt kicked in mid-service, he'd know better.
