The 10% figure came from a professor in a research class who had gone through the process of defending a dissertation.

Was his dissertation on a 10% requirement for polling populations? Because I've also gone through the process of defending a dissertation, however it had nothing to do with opinion polling.

It's an established benchmark.

Established? By whom? All you have is one professor who told you something once, simply on his authority. You're lucky you didn't have any Marxist professors, or you'd probably be on the barricades singing The Internationale.

OK. Let's agree to disagree. I feel that the larger the polling sample, the more accurate the poll. My common sense leads me to believe that. You disagree. No sweat.
