A day in the life of President Bush (9/11/05): photos
Yahoo News Photos & WhiteHouse.gov ^ | 9/11/05

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: After the President and First Lady attended church in Washington this morning, they participated in a September 11, 2001 rememberance and moment of silence on the White House lawn. GWB then headed for New Orleans where he touched down mid-afternoon. He will be spending the night aboard the USS Iwo Jima, which is docked in New Orleans harbor near downtown.

The President was met by New Orleans Mayor Nagin, but Gov. Kathleen Blanco was not present.

Patriot Day 2005 Proclamation

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Four years have passed since our country was brutally attacked on a quiet September morning. On that day, thousands of innocent lives were taken from us. The victims and the families who lost loved ones remain in the hearts and prayers of our Nation. We also remember the courage of the firefighters, police officers, emergency rescue personnel, and scores of private citizens who showed us the true meaning of heroism and demonstrated our resolve to the world.

The mission that began on September 11, 2001, continues. Today, we see the virtue of the September 11th heroes embodied in our military personnel, who are taking the fight to our enemies and helping to keep us safe at home. Thousands of other Americans, from intelligence analysts to border guards to countless others, are doing vital work to help defend America and prevent future attacks. We are grateful to all of these men and women and to their families for their service and sacrifice. We honor those who have lost their lives defending our freedom, and we pray that God comfort their families. We pledge that we will not rest until we have won the war on terror.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, I call upon all our citizens to express their patriotism and their gratitude for the blessings of liberty. By flying the flag, supporting military families, and teaching young people about our founding ideals, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and since, and we help preserve our freedom for future generations.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107 89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2005, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff on Patriot Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, to display the flag at half staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth.

GEORGE W. BUSH

Also a few days ago several folks from the various

Stategery. Nagin is much harder on Blanco than the President. Blanco is an impediment to success...Nagin would like to be successful.

So...you pick your battles and get the job done.

Plus, honestly, Nagin is more likable than either Blanco or Landrieu. Ick.

I haven't even gotten through the first part of the Talk Show thread...it is a LONG thread today...

BUT, one thing I did see, when I first got to FR, was a thread on the article that Evan Thomas wrote for Newsweek...Did you happen to see the thread, and read the article...????

It has gotten me more upset than the screaming dems have in the Congress....

It is about how supposedly, behind closed doors, Bush is TOTALLY different than we see....really hard to work for, and his employees are AFRAID of him...????? I just cannot believe it...but, where does this come from???

Then, I see on this thead...pictures of him taking MORE time with the flight crews...than the brass...Thomas makes it sound like he does that "ALL FOR SHOW"..

sigh....sigh...(praying it isn't so)...sigh

I was pleased to see that the VP looked OK after seeing the photos of him yesterday looking very tired. I am certain Lynne has been a great source of comfort to him I noticed he touched the small of her back about 4 times when they there were walking to and from the White House which is unusual for him to show that amount of affection in public.

How Bush can even talk to Nagin after all that he has said about him...is beyond me...

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, GWB doesn't have much choice, although he did a great job of ignoring Nagin for several minutes. That alone made me happy. Along with witnessing a live rescue of a frightened dog in NO by my very own Los Angeles Search and Rescue, and seeing the Dallas Cowboys win their opening game, this is the happiest day I've had in awhile.

I saw a very sweet picture in the local paper of a man reunited with his little dog he had been separated from during the hurricane. I believe the dog's name was Prettyface. He was an older looking gentleman, and he was holding his little dog to his cheek. It was one of those "awwwwww" moments!

Are you saying that hard work and stick-to-itiveness creates success? What are you, some kind of whacko? ; )

The day I earn a snugs special toaster...I am printing it out and putting it up on my refrigerator. My kids art does not even get a place on the fridge. My fridge is free of all detritus. But a toaster....well, a toaster is different!

Hope you're having a wonderful day snugs!

We are happy to see the dose whenever it may appear. I want to say something about which I have made an annoyance of myself saying elsewhere in FR today. America did a great job faced with this unprecedented storm and the horrid imcompetence of the locals in Louisiana. Thank you Coast Guard, thank you locals. thank you NG, thank you first responders. Thank you New York and California and Texas and all who helped. Thank you.

Another, thank goodness for small miracles.

Ain't that the truth. But I suspect Blanco and GWB will not be seen together again unless there is no choice for either party.

Hi Pippin...

I'm just an hour south of Toronto, just outside Hamilton, Ontario.

I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. I spent the next week going back and forth from stunned silence to just weeping and weeping for your country.

I became American in my heart that day, and have never wavered in my support for your nation, your president and the mission.

God bless you all, and God bless your wonderful president. Never has one human been so relentlessly attacked. It is shameful.

Evening, Wolfstar. Thanks for the Dose :)

Anyone remember that old cartoon with the two dogs?

The smaller dog is jumping around, trying to impress the big dog, but the big dog doesn't care--he just pushes the little one out of the way and keeps on walking. This photo reminds me of that.
