PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: After the President and First Lady attended church in Washington this morning, they participated in a September 11, 2001 rememberance and moment of silence on the White House lawn. GWB then headed for New Orleans where he touched down mid-afternoon. He will be spending the night aboard the USS Iwo Jima, which is docked in New Orleans harbor near downtown.

The President was met by New Orleans Mayor Nagin, but Gov. Kathleen Blanco was not present.

Patriot Day 2005 Proclamation

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Four years have passed since our country was brutally attacked on a quiet September morning. On that day, thousands of innocent lives were taken from us. The victims and the families who lost loved ones remain in the hearts and prayers of our Nation. We also remember the courage of the firefighters, police officers, emergency rescue personnel, and scores of private citizens who showed us the true meaning of heroism and demonstrated our resolve to the world.

The mission that began on September 11, 2001, continues. Today, we see the virtue of the September 11th heroes embodied in our military personnel, who are taking the fight to our enemies and helping to keep us safe at home. Thousands of other Americans, from intelligence analysts to border guards to countless others, are doing vital work to help defend America and prevent future attacks. We are grateful to all of these men and women and to their families for their service and sacrifice. We honor those who have lost their lives defending our freedom, and we pray that God comfort their families. We pledge that we will not rest until we have won the war on terror.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, I call upon all our citizens to express their patriotism and their gratitude for the blessings of liberty. By flying the flag, supporting military families, and teaching young people about our founding ideals, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and since, and we help preserve our freedom for future generations.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107 89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2005, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff on Patriot Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, to display the flag at half staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent victims who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth.

GEORGE W. BUSH

I'm really curious to know who the heavy-set guy was.

Me too. He looked to be a man in his 60's. Not really obese, but on the heavy side. White hair. Civilian. He and GWB had quite a conversation. Looked to me like the man might have been reporting something to the President or briefing him on something.

GWB went straight to that man after greeting Allen and Honore, and he only acknowledge Nagin afterwards. I supposed it's possible the man might have been a representative from the governor, but without a reporter cluing us in, I can only speculate.

Even when Blanco's there, she's not "there", if you know what I mean!

LOL! So true. And we can say the same for that pathetic senior senator from Louisiana, too. Man, is she a piece of work. I thought Boxer and Feinstein were bad, but Landrieu takes the cake.

You know, that is possible.

Think of it this way. If you have a boss who expects you to take your job seriously, holds you accountable, that expects you to give 110%, does not put up with any dishonesty or excuses...are you going to be a little afraid of him? Are you going to think of him as being "hard to work for" or "easy to work for?"

Of course he is going to be hard to work for...and you are going to be a little afraid of him. But if you are doing your job, if you are disciplined, if you are contributing...you are going to respect him and you are going to be loyal to him.

I think that you must command respect in his position. You must remain far enough away from your employees personally that you can make hard decisions when necessary. It is called honor and duty. It is the work of a man dedicated to producing results, not giving people a false sense of security. Trying to be everybody's friend and easy to work for gives us Presidents like Bill Clinton. Expecting people to get the job done or else, gives us Presidents like George Bush.

That doesn't mean they are not personable. It means they are doing their job. In this case, healthy and necessary boundaries are being spun to sound nefarious. His other "persona" is not a SHOW. It is a result of understanding the different parts of his job and doing each of them well.

I hope we hear more stories about people being reuinited with their pets.

I forget which channel it was this morning, but I saw a clip about the pets lost during this disaster. I was trying to wake up so I was kind of drifting in and out of sleep, but it showed these dogs and cats wandering around in the streets. Very sad.

Isn't Evan Thomas the one who predicted that the media's support of the DNC would be worth at least 15 points for Kerry?!

Looks like he's still trying, only this time his focus is the President's job approval rating . . .

Too late Thomas: The President has been re-elected and will be 'in your face' for 3 more years!!

I take great solace in knowing that he has a strong, wise, and loving wife to turn to,and that she can put it in perspective for him,and remind him that there are MANY of us out here, who admire, respect, and love him. It's just that the braying idiots are of course louder. That's what I tell myself anyway. This President had dealt with almost more than any other President in history, and been ceaselessly vilified while doing so.I hope he knows how many of think that he's great and love him. I wish that I could declare a national "Appreciate President George W Bush" day.I know he's not perfect, but he's a good man,and always willing to roll up his sleeves and get something accomplished, and he loves America.

Nagin looks like a heartless idiot yukking it up considering his own city and people have just been devastated,

Ain't that the truth! If Nagin were a Republican, the MSM and the moonbats would eat him alive for even cracking a smile.

Although I did have to E-Mail the FBI about a coworker who kept saying the President ought to be shot.

Very scary, Pippin. You did the right thing. Let the authorities look into it.

I'm keeping you and Mike in my prayers!

However, it makes me feel better knowing that Mike's in the Gulf supervising key elements of the relief effort -- the 'mission' is in great hands!

Me too. But I cleaned out cupboards and made cookies while I did it, so I don't feel too bad!

What always holds me up is running back here to the computer every 45 seconds on days like this!

Nagin's probably on a high from all the (hot air) wind beneath his wings issued from the arses of the liberal commie star system and media.
