Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 10:27 p.m. EDT Mary Landrieu: School Bus Failure Bush's Fault

It was the Bush administration's fault that hundreds of city school buses weren't dispatched to evacuate the hurricane-battered residents of New Orleans two weeks ago before floods swamped the city, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu said Sunday.

Asked on "Fox News Sunday" why New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin failed to follow the city's evacuation plan and press the buses into service, Landrieu blamed Bush administration cuts in mass transit funding.

"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she said. "And it's because this administration and administrations before them do not understand the difficulties that mayors . . . face." Landrieu then added: "In other words, this administration did not believe in mass transit. They won't even get people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out."

Saying she was unwilling to criticize Louisiana officials, the Louisiana Democrat insisted that Mayor Nagin's evacuation efforts had been a smashing success.

"Because the mayor evacuated the city, we had the best evacuation . . . of any evacuation I've seen. I'm 50 years old; I've never seen one any better," Landrieu told FNS.

That prompted FNS host Chris Wallace to remind: "But there were a hundred thousand people left in the city."

Landrieu once again blamed the White House, saying:

"They did [have] a hundred thousand people left in the city because this federal government won't support cities to evacuate people, whether it's from earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. And that's the truth."

"Mayor Nagin and most mayors in this country have a hard time getting their people to work on a sunny day, let alone getting them out of the city in front of a hurricane," she [the corrupt senator] said.

The senator degenerated down to insulting all government workers in the US!!!! It was a slap in the face of every heroic fire fighter, police officer, etc in the country!

[I heard Laura Ingraham dissect this along these lines-- outstanding.]

Considering the quote on Post 241, I have to ask what other senators think? Does Hillary agree with her, for example? Does Hillary think that the government workers in New York, for example, deserve that venomous insult? What about Chuckie Schumer? Does he agree? And Lousyburg from New Jersey, for that matter?

Landrieu, Blanco and Nagin are just trying to blame Bush and the magnificent federal response, and trying not think about the reality that it was all their fault and their political careers will likely end when their next re-elections beign.

How is it that a state full of Democrats, free to pursue their own enlightened policies, had a city full of poor people who couldn't flee a disaster?

President Bush was just on Fox and answered the media questions . Mayor Nagin was standing behind him with Admiral Allen and Gen. Honore. President Bush said there is plenty of time to play the blame game regarding FEMA. He said we will continue to assess the situation and that is why he sent Mike Chertoff down there. He said the storm did not discriminate and neither did the rescue effort. "I rely on good people. That is why Admiral Allen is here. That is why Gen. Honore is here. I signed emergency documentation in advance of the storm and that is extraordinary. Everyone, including the press, relaxed at a critical moment when it first hit and blew a sigh of relief saying we dodged a bullet." He also said that it is ludicrous that we did not have enough National Guard because we are in Iraq.

So Bush is responsble for all the LA democrats failures. In fact, I can't name one accomplishment of LA democrats, except that Gen. Honore is in charge now.

Part of a plan to have buses evacuate the city would be to inform the drivers they were expected to work--and if they didn't sign up, then to find other volunteers.

Driving a bus in an emergency is not rocket science.

Here (The Steady Buidup to a City's Chaos) is some interesting information from, of all places, the Washington Post:
But local officials got the word out that this was no ordinary storm, and residents took them seriously, streaming out of town in the contra-flow lanes. Hurricane Pam's leaders had predicted a 65 percent evacuation rate, but Maestri reported 70 percent in Jefferson Parish, thanks in part to a church buddy program that provided rides for as many as 25,000 residents, and St. Bernard Parish reported 90 percent. "We had some hard-headed sons of bitches who wouldn't leave, but we made sure everyone knew this was the one," said emergency manager Larry Ingargiola.
A church buddy program. Think of that. Maybe Al and Jesse should have Rev'd up something in Orleans Parish after the Hurricane Pam simulation a year ago.

Is this woman mentally deranged or what?

No, she's a Democrat (you may say that's the same thing), and Democrats have no shame whatsoever about lying.

Add to that the fact that apparently no Republican senators care to speak up and set the record straight and all you've got out there are lies, lies, lies.

My biggest fear -- especially since she stood up in the Senate today and stated no Halliburton -- ALL contract have to go to LA and within 30 days at that...

I agree. Where are the Republicans? Why are they so quiet?
This is an outrage.
