Lolita has always been one of my favorite books and Nabokov one of my favorite writers. I read it in early high school and certainly had trouble with the subject matter, but I realized that Nabokov wasn't in recommending statutory rape, he was just telling a story based on a real-life event.

I guess I differ with you on the issue of when a person is ready to read mature stuff...I think that depends on the how mature the person in question is and the book itself.
What gives me pause is how quickly people want to ban a book without regard to its real merit The same way Lolita was initially banned.

That second part must be a real doozie. I'm 55 and don't read that kind of trash. As a nation, we are trying to teach our children that sex isn't a toy and needs to be treated with respect and not as a pasttime. I ask why you would defend giving trash to students to read? ESPECIALLY if it involves any sex to do with a child?!
