BATON ROUGE (AP) — Echoing the words of President Bush a day earlier, Gov. Kathleen took responsibility Wednesday for failures and missteps in the immediate response to Hurricane Katrina and pledged a united effort to rebuild New Orleans and the surrounding parishes ravaged by the storm.

“We all know that there were failures at every level of government: state, federal and local. At the state level, we must take a careful look at what went wrong and make sure it never happens again. The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility,” Blanco told lawmakers in a special meeting of the Louisiana Legislature.

This makes sense in the context of President Bush taking responsibility for any errors at the federal level. Blanco is responsible for the state level and Nagin for the local level.

What was said: 'The buck stops here...'

What was not said: '...after it has greased the palms of Mayor Nagin. He takes his share, then I line my wallet.'

"Now Gov. BLAMEO decides to stop after weeks of blame. The differance is the President never blamed anyone else"

Precisely...Even though the poll numbers told her to do it she's already proven herself to be a puny, inept, and completely ineffective.

Is this lady admitting guilt for hundreds of deaths since she refused to order an evacuation? Sounds like impeachment proceedings are in order or maybe even criminal charges?

I couldn't believe my ears tonight when I heard NBC telling how the New Orleans Levee Committee who was responsible for insuring the levees were safe spent millions for some fountains and millions for some highway bridge to get out to the casino and some here and some there.

She probably thinks that since Bush already admitted everything was his fault, it was safe for her to come out and take a little blame herself...but she can always resume blaming Bush any time she get's any criticism since he gave her cover.

The Mayor is sort of doing the same thing.

I bet our local liberal rag won't have her statements plastered across the front page like they did when President Bush took responsibility...

"She surely got a hold of some good polling data."

This is so cynical, it has to be right. Probably went something like this: Blanco Advisor: "the polls say that people are tired of you finger-pointing and whining, and want a real leader who will take responsibility like George Bush did yesterday." Blanco: "whaaaaat? Are you crazy? If I can make someone else take the fall, I may survive politically."
Advisor: "I know it goes against everything we believe, but you've got to step up and do the right thing."
