Well, OF COURSE we have to spend "government" money. They're HOPING Bush will have to raise taxes!
The money is not going only to blacks; they were not the only people affected, they were just simply the group that the media loves to focus on, because the press somehow saw it as a way of "getting" GWB. This is why he is focusing on them, in addition, perhaps, to the hope that some of them will take advantage of this opportunity to get their lives together and escape the Dem plantation.
But the Gulf Opportunity Zone will include all of the counties in that zone, not all of which are majority black (like NO), but all of which were devastated. There's a lot of unemployed poor white folk down there who will benefit by this, too, but the press won't care about them.
Correct.
And tax breaks allow them to employ MORE people.
Uh, lower taxes get more business activity. More business activity more jobs.
Actually- there are some good conservative principles in here- but until the rhetoric settles down there will be a lot of moaning and groaning on both sides.
Well, I had to shut Bush off before I saw the whole speech. Bush said, among others:
1] that Mayor Nagin will be part of the planning of the reconstruction.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Oh George, you are soooooo funny!
2] and Bush did NOT say that foreign aid will be stopped until we can pay (WE TAXPAYERS) for this stuff.
3] Bush did not say that many pork projects will be stopped, that he will ask for elinination or drastic reductions in many other programs to pay for this.
4] Bush said we taxpayers will pay for free transportation to reunite families, instead of asking local cities, counties, individuals, relatives or charities or churches to do transport families.
5] We will pay for this, we will by those people that, we will waste $$$ on this, we will waste dollars on that, blah blah blah ....
6] Oh yea, Bush proposed more racial discrimination by saying minority owned businesses will get special treatment. This is really odd since most minorities in NO got in trouble in the first place because they got used to favoritism and handouts, etc.
What did I miss? Anybody care to add to this?
I think I agree with you...but I trust the Dems in Louisiana more than the ones in New Jersey...I think...It's close to a tie from my POV....

Everyone supportive of the President and thankful for what they have and saying th mayor could have gotten them out but didn't or they had the chance to leave and did not go.
One black woman said she blames the mayor of N.O. because they (the feds) "allocated funds to build up the levee, but the govenor never did it."!!!! SOMEBODY ACTUALLY 'GETS IT'!

Maybe because all the people who are suppose to be helping him get the message out spend all their time whining about Bush. Funny how many "Conservatives" spend all their time giving propaganda aid to the Hysteric Left Hate Bush campaign.
I would love to see a reporter get the kind of uh garbage that they so often dole out.
