Vatican bid to find gays in seminary stirs concern

An effort by the Vatican to look for evidence of homosexuality in Catholic seminaries is alarming gay rights advocates but is pleasing conservatives, who are hoping that Pope Benedict XVI will soon issue a ban on gay men as future priests.

The planned search for homosexuality is part of a Vatican review prompted by the clergy sexual abuse crisis of 229 American seminaries, theology schools, and other institutions that train priests. It is set to begin this month.

Hooray! My disdain for the Catholic Church (as an institution) is well known. I applaud them for this step in the right direction.

The recent sex scandals is proof that gays do not belong in the church.

The MSM tried to portray the problem as men having sex with children, but when you boil it down it was gays having sex with boys.

Now that we have proof what a disaster gays are in the church, we need to weed them out and ban them.

All I can say is that it’s about time. Homosexuality is a disease of the mind as well as the body. The continual denial of the risk associated with male homosexuals being in charge of male children is abhorrent. Today's culture has been deceived by well intentioned fools into believing the most despicable lie and in acting on that lie is placing generations of children at risk.

As you know, celibacy is unscriptural. It's not God's way. It causes normal sexual desire comes out the wrong way.

I have neither unrealistic disdain or praise for the church. As an anecdote, my brother was an altar boy in the 1960's. My dad told him that was OK, but to watch out for the priests because he figured they were "mostly queers." However true then it is more so now. It is rather openly discussed now that American seminaries have become dominated by active homosexuals.

Not all men are sexual. If sex was so important to a man then he would definitely not choose to become a priest.

The Catholic Church has for years embraced the idea of being homosexual, without practicing homosexuality. They have allowed their priests to be homosexual as long as they don't practice it. That is a crock, and if you recruit people like that then you will get the problems that you get from letting homosexuals have power in your organizaton.

The line going out over the media is that homosexuals are not more inclined than anyone else to be pedophiles. This also is a crock. The priests who engage in homosexual acts with young boys are homosexuals, whether or not they "come out of the closet" and declare themselves so.

The homosexual lifestyle is defined by what you do. If you are having sex with someone of the same sex then you are a homosexual, whether or not you will admit it. Get rid of the idea that homosexuals can have position in the church and you will get rid of this problem of sex with young boys.

The Catholic church does not exist to provide dating alternatives for homosexuals. Its about time this matter was looked in to. Certainly if a homosexual wants to declare celibacy and stick to it he should be allowed to serve as a priest, but we have to head off those who are coming in because the hunting is good. Do these hunters exist? I believe they do.

1 homo gets in and then lets in another and so on and so on, it's not like the church was ever looking for homos and it's good that they are moving against them finally.

Well, we know what St Paul said about it - better to marry than to burn, or something like that. I hope someone with a better memory or a Bible at hand has the verse. Of course, I suppose it's possible to do both.

Oh yeah, that is one of my many gripes with the Catholic hierarchy.

For all the Church's preaching about sexual immorality, it seems that gays have a firmly established home there. Oscar Wilde, an English poet of exquisite grace (!), once wrote: "The most unusual of all perversions is celebacy".

Add to that is my belief that it is hard to rely on advice about physical love from people that are required to have NO first-hand knowledge of the subject.

I do not agree with the celibacy in the catholic priesthood. However, you cannot blame that for the homosexual lifestyle. The reason that there are so many homosexuals there in the priesthood, is because it is hard to recruit the "normal" guy to a celibate lifestyle. Then because it is hard to recruit them they have gone outside the normal and gotten a hold of other recruits such as these homosexuals.

Now we have a couple generations of recruiting in the homosexual community, and guess what? They have proven that they will keep on having homosexual sex. Any idiot can see that bringing someone like that in contact with kids is like letting a hogbait loose in a candy store.

"now that American seminaries have become dominated by active homosexuals."

A good friend has a son that wanted to go to seminary. He went with him to visit numerous seminaries and didn't feel they went to one that wasn't "infested" to use his word.

The liberals and touchy-feelies have been in charge of seminaries for too long. I will be glad to see some hard-line Vatican influence exerted.

Its been known for some time that an abornormally large percentage of gay men were molested themselves by older males. As much as 49% of them versus the 2% for the heterosexual population. What is the real travesty is that by not offerring an honest assessment of homosexuality and insisting that it is something that can not be changed a whole group of people receiving the treatment they need to get over this early sexual trauma. Dealing with homosexuality is such an "Alice in Wonderland" topic because people are so afraid of confronting the reality of homosexual molestation with the real treatment that is needed and the protection that young boys need from those who would victimize them.
