So he thinks the court will go left under Roberts?

More priceless observations here.

" ... as even Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, proper political settlement of the issue by the people and their representatives; making us the only nation in the West to have legalized abortion by judicial fiat rather than by the popular will expressed democratically."

Interesting that she said that. If she were on the court she'd have voted FOR abortion. Being part of the legal arm of the A.C.L.U. tells me she is a bold hypocrite. She routinely manipulates the law to further HER left wing agenda.

(I happen to be a supporter of legalized abortion.)

[SNIP] Not that this in any way disqualifies Roberts in my conservative eyes

Does not compute.

BTW, count Krauthammer among the few who are looking at the testimony honestly. Most everyone else just sees what they want to see.

It is what it is. Roberts would have been alrigth as an O'Connor replacement, but he's not a step in the right direction as a Rehnquist replacement.

Circumspect and clever Roberts has been. No one really knows. But I predict two things: (a) Chief Justice Roberts will vote to uphold Roe v. Wade , and (b) his replacing his former boss, Chief Justice William Rehnquist, will move the court only mildly, but most assuredly, to the left — as measured by the only available yardstick, the percentage of concurrences with the opinions of those conservative touchstones, Scalia and Thomas.

I fully agree. Unfortunately, Kraut says he doesn't have a problem with this. I do. Having a "conservative" like Roberts get up and say in so many words that the Constitution doesn't really mean what it says is worse than having an avowed liberal do it. He's done damage even before getting on the court.
