O'Reilly Over the Edge
Media Monitor ^ | 9/16/2005 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 09/16/2005 8:33:30 AM PDT by Mike Bates

Clicking through the radio dial on a drive through Virginia the other day, I had the occasion to listen to Bill O'Reilly posturing as a political independent who takes on the left and right. He said he had come under attack by a "right-wing" website because he wouldn't interview Ed Klein, the author of The Truth About Hillary. I presume he's referring to Accuracy in Media. We have done extensive reporting on the coverage of the Klein book and have found it strange that O'Reilly has joined with the liberal media in suppressing discussion of the serious charges in the book. O'Reilly claims it constitutes a "personal attack" on Senator Clinton when the book is an examination of her character. We headlined our AIM Report on the matter, "Character Counts for Hillary Clinton." It counts for O'Reilly, too. If he wants to debate it, give me a call.

Ironically, as noted by NewsMax, O'Reilly has commented on his show about how the Times "is out to destroy" author Ed Klein. At that point, O'Reilly had counted eight negative articles about the Klein book. Yet he refuses to give Klein any air time to discuss his book or the attacks on him. O'Reilly has devoted many stories to the Natalee Holloway case in Aruba, raising all kinds of questions about possible suspects in the case, but he can't bring himself to interview a respected journalist who has researched the truth about Senator Clinton. This doesn't make much sense, unless you conclude that O'Reilly doesn't want to engage in "personal attacks" because he is so vulnerable to them. The sexual harassment charges lodged by a former associate were a big embarrassment for him. He settled those charges with a big pay-out before they went to court.

His ego is a big as all outdoors. As the Greeks said many moons ago, "Pride cometh before the fall"

If I recall, he held a poll on his website and asked if he should have Klein on. If the "folks" wanted it he was going to interview him and if they didn't, he wouldn't. Most people said no so he didn't.

I caught a little bit of a mutual admiration society going on between BOR and Chuckie Schumer last night.

Knowing full well that my head would pop off my body like a cork if I were within a block of Schumer, this makes me highly suspect of BOR.

Thank heaven he's looking after we the folks' best interests. I mean, what would we do without him? I know my own life has improved immeasurably since he started looking out for me.

Additionally, I find it ironic that an organization called "Accuracy in Media" left that part out.

Caught that also. All smiles, winks and nods. What's funny is O'Reilly insisting upChuck will vote for Roberts. Right.

BOR is a a pompous bore and with the self-assigned claim he's an independent. I simply never watch him in hopes he will go away.

Must be because his audience is primarily liberal. He's not much different than the guy on CNN, King.

I think actually Oreilly didn't hold a poll for interviewing Klein. He conducted a poll last fall about Kitty Kelly and her Bush Family Bash Book, which was huge in response to not have Kelly on air. So Oreilly attacked Klein's book also, tyring to look like an independent. I don't think He ever conducted a poll if he should have Klein on, because he knew the response would have been yes.

His show, his call. Sorry, but it's just like FreeRepublic, Jim gets to make the calls her - and OReilly gets to make the calls there. It's not "right or wrong" it's freedom.

"I caught a little bit of a mutual admiration society going on between BOR and Chuckie Schumer last night."

I find it somewhat amusing that, when watching O'Reilly, people see what they want to see. I watched that segment. It was a light-hearted segment in which Bill tried to get Schumer to admit he was going to vote in favor of Roberts. Funny that so many people refer to O'Reilly as a jerk, a bully, etc then rip him because he was jovial. Crazy.

I don't trust people who constantly brag about how nonpartisan they are. I think O'Reilly chooses his opinions based upon making himself appear independent more than he does upon principal. (That in addition to the fact that he's a doofus...)

I thought last night's show was one of O'Reilly's best. Not that that is saying much, BUT...

The Schumer bit had Chuckie criticizing dim judges and saying Roberts is the most brilliant witness to ever testify before the judiciary committee. O'Reilly then turned a black guest's position around to have him admit that there was no racist motivation behind the lack of the super duper response armchair America wanted to see following Katrina.
