(Cedar Rapids – KCRG) --Two months after her murder, Evelyn Miller's mother and fiancé are frustrated with the investigation and their neighbors.

The search for Evelyn Miller's killer is growing more intense.

Wednesday, investigators once again searched the Floyd County apartment where the girl and her mother, Noel Miller, lived when Evelyn disappeared.

In a three-hour search, investigators took swab samples from a carpet in a garage and a car parked at the site.

Now, rumors and accusations about who killed Evelyn are swirling all over Floyd County.

The five-year-old girl disappeared the first of July and her body was found six days later in the Cedar River.

Noel Miller and her fiancé, Casey Frederiksen, spoke only to TV-Nine about the investigation.

Miller and Frederiksen say they can't bear to be near their Floyd apartment anymore.

Now they're uncomfortable in their new Charles City home, too.

Plus, the couple says investigators are pointing fingers in all the wrong directions.

"They're just trying to get the tension off them and make you look worse so the town hates us even more," Miller said.

Miller and Frederiksen say they're unhappy with the investigation so far and they think the community is ganging up on them.

"People used to be so sympathetic they used to walk up and hug you and give you reassurance now it's like they're ripping your heart out and stomping on it," Miller said.

Frederiksen shares similar feelings. "You go into the store and people glare at you. Sometimes people with their kids shoo them away from us like we're going to do something," he said.

The couple moved into the Charles City home weeks ago and they say the neighborhood has been anything but welcoming.

"We'll be sitting here and older people will drive by and yell murderer and stuff like that," Miller said.

"I'd never do anything to Evelyn so I don't know why they're doing this to us. It's hard enough we can't even grieve yet because they're not giving us time to."

Frederiksen also says he feels like investigators are unfairly targeting him.

Police examined his computer hard drive and now rumors are flying about what's on it.

"For the past four years we had a digital camera so it was all of our memories and pictures of our boys and our daughter, Evelyn," Frederiksen said.

Miller and Frederiksen still keep remembrances of Evelyn in their new home, including a flower Evelyn painted.

Now, they say they just want everyone to let them grieve in peace.

"We've suffered so much and we don't need this stuff too on top of that," Frederiksen said.

"Give us your sympathy and be nice to us, because we don't deserve people being cruel. People are being so cruel to us," Miller said.

The couple plans to move to nearby New Hampton in the coming weeks.

They also plan to continue to fight for full custody of their other two children.

Did this reporter ask any probing questions about the computer hard drive and why it was hidden?

Or, did he promise not to ask any tough questions in order to get the interview?

I would guess the latter. Plus, given these people have had plenty of time to think about it, I think we know what their answer would be.

As I try to imagine what I would do if one of my children was abducted and murdered, I have to say I really don't know. For instance, if every photo I'd taken of my kids over the past 4 years existed only on my hard drive, would I have had the presence of mind to think it might be a good idea to hide it from possible confiscation, rather than risk losing those precious photos forever? Frankly, I can't imagine it would have occurred to me to think of that at such a time.

BUT, maybe it wouldn't have occurred to me simply because I've never been on the receiving end of any police investigation. Given the fact that these people have had some personal and second-hand experience with such investigations, I can only speculate it's possible they could have thought to hide their hard drive for that innocent reason.

Hate it when that happens.

Noel Miller and her fiancé, Casey Frederiksen...

Have you ever noticed how low-class shack-ups like to dignify their relationsip with "fiance" in the press? This pair had 3 children, age 5 and over, but they're now "engaged." Give me a break.

The pair only had 2 kids together, and their kids are 2 and 1. But don't you just hate it when people who have been together for 5+years (on and off may I add) are all of a sudden engaged. IF YOU HAVEN'T SET A DATE YOU ARE JUST WEARING A RING!!!!!
