State Treasurer Robert Vigil and former State Treasurer Michael Montoya were arrested this morning and indicted on charges of wrongfully obtaining payments from an investment adviser, according to the indictments and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

They were arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigations agents early today, said Norm Cairns, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Federal agents executed search warrants at Vigil and Montoya's homes as well as at the State Treasurer's Office. There was no answer at the Treasurer's Office this morning.

According to the indictment, Vigil is accused of obtaining more than $50,000 in payments from investment adviser Kent Nelson. Montoya is accused of obtaining more than $600,000 while treasurer, also from Nelson.
