"Louisiana has issued no call for help and will not."
Rising Tide - The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America ^ | 1997 | John M. Barry

Parker was prideful. A few months earlier the Mississippi River had flooded a million acres of Louisiana and left 40,000 people homeless. The entire Louisiana congressional delegation had pleaded with him to ask for federal aid, or at least help from the national Red Cross. He had refused to do either, stating, "Louisiana has issued no call for help and will not."

This excerpt is in reference to Governor John M. Parker of Louisiana and a flood which happened in 1922. The book, "Rising Tide", is absolutely fabulous. Does anyone else see a pattern here?

I believe that was actually the flood of 1927. My mother and great-grandmother were "in" it.

No. The flood in 1922 which is mentioned on p. 148, was just a warm-up act for the big one in 1927, which is what the book builds up to. The Yazoo-Mississippi delta area of Mississippi was unaffected by the 1922 flood, just Louisiana.

I stand corrected. I consider that 1927 flood a "worse catastrophe" than Katrina. Affected more land, and more people. Reporters either don't know history, or have short memories (or both).

Short whatevers. Our sister state need not expect anything but our compassion in time of need.
God Bless America.

Blanco did not issue a call for help either. She just complains when it's not given, even though no one asked for it.
