Oh get real. Drinking is not anti moral value. This kid did not rape his the gal down the street.
I never said that drinking was immoral (though some bible types might disagree, see Ephesians 5:18). I'm simply suggesting that for any politician (Democrat or Republican) to hold himself out as a protector of 'family values' is ridiculous when members of his _family_ seem to keep getting arrested for drug and alcohol problems. It indicates (to me, at least) that there might be something wrong with the strength of the family unit or parenting styles. Is Jeb Bush a terrible father because his kid got arrested for being a loud drunk? Probably not. But you get enough Bush kids being arrested, and you can't help wondering what's up.

That place will drive you to drink! Agreed. I was there for two days once and the second night I could barely make it back to the hotel...That said, there probably is something we're not being told here. It's probably a "get Bush" moment. Any Bush will do, but Jeb is a real target because he is probably the most conservative member of the Bush family.

I'm not so sure. I think there's a legitimate question about whether such vocal public proponents of 'family values' have any more moral authority than the Kennedy Clan. W admits to a reckless youth, and the Bush kids seem to have these legal/drug/alcohol problems popping up.Having overcome an alcohol addiciton myself, I am hardly in a position to pass judgement, but the point is that these guys aren't any more 'moral' than prominent Democrats with public events to be embarrased for. (Clinton and Kennedy come to mind...) Seems like they're all cut from the same mold.
You actually are playing the "moral authority" card comparing the Bush family to the Kennedys and the Clinton's?
Get real! Teddy "the swimmer" is responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne.
Bill Clinton smeared the honor of the presidency with his daliance on the Oval Office desk, to put it mildly. Not to mention the things he did to Gennifer Flowers, Juanita Broderick, ad infinatum.
Don't even get me started on Hillary!
You said yourself that you are hardly in a position to pass judgement.
I must say, that is about the only thing about your post that has a ring of truth.

Well...a whole bunch of us just might think that if your children are considered "fair game" in the media spotlight, that every embarrassing instance of stupidity will hit the headlines.
The flip side: I did not vote into office the child of a politician.

What is it with Jeb's kids? The daughter is also on some kind of substance abuse probation.

Again, a knee-jerk reaction that misses the point. What's the point? None of these bastard politicians has any moral authority to lecture Americans about values.

Everyone has embarrassing incidents. Not everybody gets arrested for public drunkenness... or drunk driving... or trying to illegally obtain perscription medication... or underage drinking...

Morality-wise, you were equating a murderer with someone who got arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Is there not a difference in your eyes?

I admit to doing a lot I could have been arrested for in my earlier years (notice, I didn't say in my youth, because I continued my horrid behaviour into my 30's, I'm afraid). However, I cleaned up my act through the grace of God. Now, I have a 12-year-old daughter, and you can bet your behind that I warn her against all the sinful behaviour, including drink and drugs, that I indulged in, and which took a heavy toll, the consequences of which extend to affect every member of my family even now. She looks at that, and she says, "yes, I understand, and I do not want that for myself." Now, does that mean I am ridiculous to be a "protector of family values?" No, I think it means that I love my daughter and do not want her to make the same mistakes I did.

No - Was asking a question - and found the answer here:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/georgep1.html
George P was involved in an incident that resulted in a police report, but no charges being filed against him.
When these things take place, the left does use it as ammo against their parents. We don't have to like it - but it is true. Would be better if the kids did not have problems with the law.
And I was down in Houston earlier this week. It is much toooo hot down there! And humid...

You might be right... OTOH, in my youth, drinking in public, and when approached by an LEO--no matter what his attitude--I spouted off in a fashion not respectful to his authority...you know what I mean??
Ended up gettin' my head busted, and thrown in the drunk tank for the night. Took me a while to learn to shut up and handle the situation with a bit more "tact" if you will. Same thing probably happened with this kid.
Are you saying they may have known who he was?
