I'm not defending the Red Cross for their services. The fact is it was dangerous and Blanco did nothing to aid any of those trying to get in the city and help. I don't blame the Red Cross or any other organization for not wanting to go in because they would be shot at.

I am sick of these whiny "displaced persons".....do they really expect that after living on a flood plain/disaster waiting to happen that they are going to just be given money to make them whole?
there is no constitutional right to get free money when a disaster hits.....
the amount of cheating and stealing going on now IMO is probably in the millions.....
makes me really want to give money again.....right...

I'm not getting what her gripe is, exactly. Did she have a particular sum of money in mind that she feels she is entitled to? And why couldn't she fill out the paperwork and meet a caseworker just like everyone else? The Salvation Army gave her food, money and a gift card, yet she gripes because she wanted clothes and furniture? Are used items not good enough for her?
Sorry. I have no compassion for this twit.

"The Red Cross is apparently "screwing up" just like they after 911. "
Interesting story. The Red Cross was also embroiled in scandal after the OKC bombing. People were sending money to specific survivors. The survivors would recieve the well-wishing cards from the donators, but the Red Cross kept the cash.

I know a number of World War 2 veterans who carry a grudge against the Red Cross from that war. Stories like the RC charging big dollars for sweaters knitted and donated to soldiers for free, charging excessively for coffee and donuts for soldiers fresh back from front lines, etc. And they are very profane in their language describing the RC.

While I admire this woman's pluckiness, the 2nd to last para makes me want to say " Gimmee gimmee gimmee! WAhhh! Houston refugees are getting more than I!"
Since when did society become responsible for natural disasters? Since when did a handout become required?
The next time we have an ice storm and are out of power for three days, instead of melting ice and snow for water, heating and reading with kerosene and basically spending the whole day just getting thru to the next day, I'm going to call the Red Cross and DEMAND a handout. I will ignore everything my mother taught me about self-reliance, and I won't file a claim with my insurance co for motel $$. Hey, doing all that self-reliance stuff can really eat up your day! I'll just check into a motel and watch TV all day....on someone else's dime!
