The Power of the Fourth (March 9, 2003)
New York Times Magazine ^ | 2003 | Deborah Sontag

Posted on 09/17/2005 7:53:55 PM PDT by jeltz25

here’s a few tidbits: 1. Luttig has an autographed photo of Clarence Thomas in his chambers, with the inscription “this wouldn’t have happened without you, buddy). Now if Luttig and Roberts are good friends and worked together and were at each other’s wedding, what does this tell us, if anything?

2. Williams got on the 4th because she was friends with Strom Thurmond through her husband and is apparently “anti-gay”, “anti-women”, “anti-black” and “anti-freedom”

Can you imagine if John Roberts had an AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO of Clarence Thomas or Scalia in his chambers? I’d want Luttig picked just to see the DEMS go ape over that.

The Williams/Thurmond connection is sure to be brought up as well

You should all read the article. Luttig and Williams are the real deal

this article is certainly interesting and is probably the best source of info on Littig and Judge Karen Williams

Hold on. How would having an autographed photo of Clarence Thomas make you a buddy with Roberts?

Michael Luttig is obviously the best choice for the next Supreme Court Justice but has committed the sin of being a white male for 50 years.
Sadly, this crime will make it very hard to get confirmed.
ON THE OTHER HAND, we have all been gearing up for a SCOTUS fight and have been denied because J G Roberts knocked out the dimwits in the first round so maybe we are ready and prepared for war.

Luttig was one of the groomsmen at Roberts wedding....They've been friends for a long time.

It doesn't. But they are indeed longtime and close friends.

The article is poorly written then. It doesn't really prove anything the way it is written.

I agree and did not even read it past the first line. I just know a little about Luttig since I have been researching him lately and Hugh Hewitt knows and likes him just like he knows and likes John Roberts.

perhaps I should have been clearer. the text in the post is mine, making some initial comments on the article that you can read if you click on the link. the tidbits were my summaries of some of the things in the article, not the text of the actual article itself.

as for the Roberts/Luttig connection, I was merely suggesting that if they are indeed close friends as they're reported to be, then it might be reasonable to draw an inference as to Roberts' judicial philosophy, given the other connections they have as well(Reagan DOJ, Bush 1 DOJ, both clerked for conservative SC Justices, same age,, etc..)

But the law journal Judicature recently evaluated the decisions of six possible Bush nominees for the Supreme Court and found Wilkinson to be furthest to the right -- exceptionally conservative. It found Luttig the second least conservative of the six.

I wonder how they came up with this?

I wondered about that as well, and have been trying my damndest to find a copy of that article. It appears I might have to order the back issue and see what the article actually says. Who knows, it might have Roberts as 2nd most conservative. I wonder what there criteria are because one of things you always hear about Wilkinson is that he's more of a moderate. It would be interesting to fid out who the 6 were and what criteria they used. If I do get the article, I'll post my findings.

I found it. www.umassd.edu/cas/polisci/bushsct.pdf

It's 3 years old and doesn't mention Roberts at all. It couldn't as he didn't have enough cases.

Read page 7, it's a PDF file, it says if Bush wants a "consensus" candidate he should go with the less conservative Janice Rogers Brown.

Well, we know two things as facts:
1. Wilkinson is moderate in temperment
2. The MSM rarely knows what it is talking about.

I can't get the link to work for the pdf. Use this google search, the article is the eighth one down.

the "less conservative" Janice Rogers Brown. well that's certainly interesting, Brown is probably the most hated Judge by the left and the media today. i really need to see what criteria they used.

i clicked on your link and it said "not available on this server". is there a way thta you could copy it and email it me?

if you could, i'd really appreciate it

thanks

They really share very similar judicial philosophies. Luttig though is a bit more vibrant and brash.
