I visited the R&R HOF a few years ago with my teenage daughter. To be honest, I not a real R&R fan - I'm more of a country music fan, but I did have some favorites during my youth and I wanted to see how the HOF would recognize them. The first thing that caught my eye was the LARGE disclaimer over the ticket counters that warned you that there would be images and displays not suitable for younger viewers inside. I don't seem to recall a similar disclaimer at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Probably from the same fools(Grammys)who didn't even nominate Huey Lewis's "Sports" for LP of the year in 85, and instead gave us these classics......

Album of the Year:
Can't Slow Down
Lionel Richie

other nominees:
Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual
Prince - Purple Rain
Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.
Tina Turner - Private Dancer

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, "Lynyd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran."

The RRHOF is a farce. While I have very little use for Genesis/Phil Collins, Def Leppard, or Duran Duran, they all had an impact on the Rock Music scene that can't be disputed

Rush, Van Halen, ELO, Yes, and Deep Purple are all very serious musicians. (Full Disclosure-Deep Purple Fanatic)

Obviously the RRHOF can't be bothered with people that can actually read music.

J.Geils Band (no) John Mellencamp (yes), the Patti Smith Group (bleech), Chic (lol), Joe Tex (eyeball roll), Miles Davis (is jazz "rock,"?), Cat Stevens (puleeze), Blondie(yep), the Paul Butterfield Band (naah), the Dave Clark Five (why not?) and the Sir Douglas Quintet (who??) will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath (yes), Lynyd Skynyrd (yes) gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols (barf) and the Stooges (if it's Moe, Larry, and Curley) all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

An "Aye" vote on everyone on the last list but, Genesis, ELO, Rush, who were alright, but this IS the HOF.

Duran Duran's nomination is a joke, right?

while the RR HOF cant admit every band out there and is a bit mainstream, I enjoyed the place immensely.

Janice joplins psychedelic porsche was on display there, and Letters from a pre adolescent Jim Morrison that gave a disturbing glimpse into his mind.

I recommend the RR HOF to anyone.

My mouse is currently resting atop a RR HOF mousepad :)

What is the requirements to get into the Hall of Fame?

Is it playing the same boring ass time signatures over and over again, while at the same time proclaiming yourself to be a die hard hypocritical collectivist campaigning for Democrats?

The R&R HOF was controlled from the start by the music industry in-crowd who view their taste as superior to ours and have always wanted the power to tell the rest of us what to listen to. Read the list of Grammy award winners down the years to get an idea of truly forgetable music that these leeches told us was great at the time, and how infrequently they honored music that anyone cared about. Having failed in force-feeding us the music they liked the first time around, they have hit upon the R&R HOF as a way of telling us what music we should have liked if we were really hip like they were.

There are two kinds of acts that make the R&R HOF list: (1) The early acts that everyone would insist on (BB King, Elvis, The Beatles, Chubby Checker, the Rolling Stones) and therefore lends 'legitimacy' to their other choices; (2) The acts that meet their standards of political correctness and they would like to construe as the legitimate successors of acts in the first group, even if they just weren't that popular.

The result is that Patti Smith, John Mellencamp, and Cat Stevens are shoe-ins because they fit the political ideals of the people running the group, just as Iggy Pop and Jackson Browne have before. If they could find another way to cannonize John Lennon, they would. (e.g., "We know we've already inducted him twice, but this year we are inducting the letter 'I' from the song 'Imagine'). Green Day can pencil their name in on the 2015 induction list right now.

In the meantime, they will ignore bands that were tremendously popular but largely apolitical, like Van Halen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, and Heart. And they will pretend that bands which espoused conservative or traditional values, like Kansas or Styx, were a stain on the very fabric of Rock 'n Roll.

Interestingly enough, since they the arbiters of 'taste' took over the playlists of Rock 'n Roll stations in the early 1990s and foisted an endless series of one-hit wonder grunge and 'alt' bands on us, the public has stopped listening to new rock 'n roll. The music formats that are now successful are Classic Rock (which plays Van Halen, Skynyrd, Heart, Rush, Kansas & Styx), and Country (which now sounds remarkably like mainstream rock from the 70s and 80s).

Oh well, that's enough a rant.

J.Geils, Blondie, and Miles should be the ONLY ones from that group in there. The bands that have been nominated before, should ALL be there. The bands never nominated, should ALL be there.

That's my opinion.......I welcome yours.

Miles Davis? - Rock n' Roll??

Rock and Roll was a phenomenon which started about 1956 and lasted less than 50 years. It's gone, it's dead, it's over - and while it could be argued what was the very last true group and what year did it die, there's no question that what's out there now bears as much resemblance to the original sound as Bach does to the Beachboys.
I'll probably be scorned by those fanatics out there who follow this stuff closely, but the last groups that I ever heard that had a close link to the Rock and Roll sound was about the time of Huey Lewis and the News and Van Halen - whenever that was.
Personally, I don't see much future for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annual Award because each year they pick from a steadily diminishing list of what must eventually be comprised of only one hit wonder performers.

How about the late great Warren Zevon?
My tag line is a quote from him. He was good friends with David Lettermen. Letterman devoted a whole show to Warren just before he died. Letterman asked Warren that since he knew he only had a little time left on this planet, what he might want to share with the people watching. Warren thought for a moment and then said, "Enjoy Every Sandwich." That was all he said, no explanation and Lettermen never asked for one.
I thought this line summed up what life should be all about. I will never forget Warren or this little wisdom of his. We take FAR TOO MUCH for granted. Thanks Warren.

Off to bed here, BUT anything that DOESN’T include the many names mentioned as well as The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd & especially Alice Cooper can’t truly be called the RnR HoF

have a great day all
