U.S. EASES RULES ON AID TO EGYPT

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The United States has significantly eased requirements for aid to Egypt. Officials said the U.S. Agency for International Development has agreed to ease conditions for more than $1 billion in funding to help Egypt's economy and social services. They said the State Department has sought to ensure this funding despite Egypt's longtime failure to fulfill the terms of assistance.

AID has accepted a State Department recommendation that would facilitate the relay of $800 million to Egypt under the Cash Transfer Program -- meant to help the economy as well as health, education and environment -- over the next three years, officials said. They said the United States has shelved hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. civilian aid to Egypt because it failed to carry out economic and civil reforms.

In July 2005, the Government Accountability Office detailed the U.S. effort to ease Egyptian aid requirements. The report by the congressional watchdog was ordered by House International Relations Committee chairman Rep. Henry Hyde amid questions regarding the feasibility of U.S. aid to Cairo.

...more than $1 billion in funding to help Egypt's economy and social services.

Mine and yours tax money, going to a bunch of degenerate moon-bat false god worshippers that would just as soon see us dead, with billions of dollars from their oil fields...and we send more to them, gratis?

I am disgusted and PO'd beyond words.

We have climbed in the hand-basket and are now enroute to hell.

Regardless of anyone's feelings about foreign aid, right now ALL foreign aid should be suspended to assist the victims in MS and AL. (screw LA)

Why don't we keep this money at home and use it for Katrina victims?

Or at least, require the Egyptians to eliminate the anti-semitic tirades from their offical press, and end the persecution of copts.

(Too much to ask that we should get anything for our money, I suppose. . .)

Maybe they can patch those holes in the border with Gaza with it?

Or, maybe not.

Why? To be stabbed in the back when Israel is attacked by Islamic Terror groups hiding in Egypt?

Because we're going to give them the aid, conditions or not, and we know they won't meet the conditions.

If it were me I would cut off all aid (including military) to Egypt and increase support for Israel by several orders of magnitude.

Egypt has been considered (by other Middle East states) as a US client for more than three decades. No surprises here.

Aid to Israel is largely based on our assurance to maintain Israeli military superiority in the region, in recognition of the return of the Sinai to Egypt.

Egyptian aid boosted at the same time was designed to encourage a growing private economy and stable political and social enviornment, to counteract then rising fundamental Islam. Of course it has morphed into military aid, making Egypt the third largest arms purchaser in the world.

Different idea, require that the aid be spent on domestic programs and the Egypt begin to democratize. It's been 25 years after all.

Similarly we could stop selling 4 times the advanced arms to the Arabs that we sell to Israel. In time that might actually allow us to meet our obligation to Israel and reduce aid.

Of course none of that is going to happen.

Egypt doesn't really have any oil, but they do have a huge moneymaker in the Suez Canal.

They charge $200,000+ for a large container ship for one-way passage.
