You don't take a heterosexual with a vow of celibacy and ask him to room with the nuns. So even if you see these orientations as equal (they are not) and should have equal treatment (they should not), you still have to realize that you are placing these vow takers in a very difficult situation.
If all things are equal, as you seem to think, then someone attracted to children is also equally qualified. Would you agree with that?

Ok, that makes sense. It's logical to assume that an environment tailor made to minimize heterosexual temptation wouldn't necessarily have the same effect if homosexuals were thrust into the mix. I was naively thinking of priests as these celibate guys who lived alone away from sexual temptation of any type.
