Dr. Rice is so elegant and awesome, isn't she? She is not afraid to be smart and fabulous!!
Sean Penn, OTH, reeks of undeserved self-admiration. But I guess he gets a tiny, tiny bit of credit for trying to drain the swamp with a dixie cup. LOL.

Good afternoon ya'll from Texas, where we're going to show folks how to prepare and deal with a hurricane! Rita is on the way, no "Ho ho ho" about it!

Good afternoon. Where in Texas are the preparations taking place for Rita? I heard Galvaston on the radio. Are you high and dry?

The approximate center of the margin of error looks to be Corpus Christi which is Southwest of Galveston. Galveston is preparing and there already is a voluntary evacuation issued by the mayor. I would imagine that similar things are happening all along the coast.

In San Antonio, where they've been taking in Katrina victims, they've already opened even more places for evacuees from the gulf coast to come.

Texas declared a disaster area ahead of time

As for David and me, we're about an hour and a half from the part of the Texas gulf coast if Rita chooses Corpus Christi or Port Aransas. We are on high ground, but would be cut off from San Antonio, which, even though it is 28 miles to our north, is at a lower elevation. We're already making preparations here at the house if the worst case scenario comes; all patio furniture and deck furniture being stored, getting ready to put extra concrete (David has a small concrete mixer) around the storage sheds, storing water from our RO system in all the bottles and closable containers we can find, etc. Our biggest worry is of tornadoes; we live in a double wide and are concerned about the sign on our roof that says, "Hit here" lol.
I think we'll be OK :)

Yes, it's looking that way. What really really hurts is if Rita hits Port Aransas and Mustang Island. David and I and my family and friends always go there when we go to the coast. The people are wonderful, the rates to stay there are low, the food is reasonable. I know they'll rebuild, because you can't really keep a Texan down, but my heart would still be a bit broken.
