North Korea's government is producing high-quality counterfeit $100 bills and is working with criminal groups in China to sell the fake U.S. money internationally, U.S. officials say.
Some details of the production of what federal officials call "supernotes" were disclosed after arrests last month in several U.S. cities of people linked to a major Asian crime ring trafficking in fake money, arms, drugs and cigarettes.
A senior Bush administration official said one of the 10 indictments in the case contains the first disclosure of the North Korean government's role in the counterfeiting.

It's good to see their industrial base can produce something.

Time for our CIA guys to exact revenge. I wonder how much further south the NK economy will go when 7 out of 8 of their bank notes are counterfiet?

Who cares?
Let other countries trade in US counterfeits as much as they want. Just don't let a single note into the country until it is checked, and don't accept wire transfers of US dollars unless/until they are verified by a Treasury Agent in the country of transfer origin.

That's the sort of comment that makes you a 1-term President.

Was there not a news item, possibly a few years old, that Iran also had one of these presses and was producing C-notes? It is possible that Iran was merely a link in a chain emanating from N.K.

Laz the chicoms have been doing the same for years and we haven't hit the CCP in that manner. What makes you think we would do that little Kim?
To: Lazamataz
They'd probably benchmark their currency to the counterfeits. I'd prefer the wacky little-kid money they sell at Dollar General to the real stuff they sanction in North Korea.

Historically, this was an act of war. Not just economic war... shoot-em-up war, no less so than the seizure of an embassy, say.

Hey, we should give them a counterfeit nuclear power plant. Let the guys who dreamed up 3-Mile Island build it.

But, but...
By losing the Presidency with dignity, Bush 41 showed a lot of class.
So what if Judas 42 sold out America for 8 years.
A stiff upper lip, I say...be a good chap and pass the buttered scones and Earl Grey...

He said last night, he enjoyed working with Son-bashing Clinton too! It's nice to know, you can separate family from fund-raising during a crisis.

I agree 100%. If you attack our currency you might as well bomb San Francisco. Bad analogy, but you get the picture.

ping. Additionally, Iraq was printing U.S. C-notes before Hussein fell, IIRC.
