What kind of wood did you get from the guy's roof? Some roofs have some pretty good stuff in them ;-)

One opinion from a weather junkie at a weather site, FWIW, but it seems pretty middle of the road:

Dry, dry treated pine 2x4's and 1x4's. It was one of those hurricane proof heavy metal roofs, lol.

Heard that. I believe he was referring to some of the homes that would be hit - in the $600,000 range.

Drudge's current headline would be funny if it weren't so sad: New Orleans mayor orders evacuation Too bad it's on 9/20 and not on 8/27.

I thought the same thing! It's all Bush's fault anyway, you know!

WOW................I have never heard of that and I live in a region where they consider mosquitos to be the regional bird (sorta like state bird) thanks - because I am a skeeter magnet - even in the dead of winter if there is one anywhere, it will find me :)

I saw an interview yesterday, people saying they were not going to evacuate their trailers. Geez, they are the most vulnerable structure in a hurricane!

Nope. The public still can't go down there.

Im sure if this thing really does hit hard well be hearing again. "The Red Cross isnt helping black people." "George Bush doesnt care about black people."

I was just thinking earlier that the response by the government will be much quicker & then the demorats will say "of course, it's Texas, not New Orleans". Bush cannot win, no matter what he does!

You guys just don't comphrend what sustained straight line winds are capable of doing

Well, I do; I've been in a storm with 80 mph straight line winds.

What's your point?

When Alicia came through here in '83, a co-worker and his wife refused to leave their trailer down in Alvin. He had relatives who invited him to ride it out with them, but he put his trust in the tie-downs that secured the trailer to the slab. He and his wife survived, but were pinned in the wreckage of the trailer and had to be rescued. What a maroon.
