CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2005--Federated Department Stores, Inc. (NYSE:FD) (PCX:FD) today announced a series of strategic decisions to build its nationwide Macy's and Bloomingdale's brands and reduce costs. As a midwesterner, it's sad to see the Marshall Field's name disappear.

The source for the above story should be Business Wire (not the Trib).

I would like to see Lord & Taylor's name disappear. I had a very bad experience with those shysters.

I take it there are no plans to bring back the "Dayton's" name in Mpls...

In Atlanta we had "Riches Department Store". Riches had quite a history in the city. It also provided much needed competition between the big name department stores.

Federated then bought them out. Just a few months ago the Riches name was replaced with Macy's. Very sad.

From friends that work there it will become Macy's very soon.

Lots of grumbling about it...another 2 years and there will be another name I would guess.

It was sad to see the Dayton's name go when it changed to Marshall Field's. Lots of fond memories of the downtown Mpls store.

Younkers used to be on a par with Dayton's in Iowa. The name was sucked up by a conglomerate and now there is a Younkers in Duluth, MN.

Down here in Houston, the longtime chain of stores known as "Foley's" is apparently coming under the "Macy's Nameplate" as well.

I remember a store called J.M. Field's, in Mass, and as a kid it is where I used to buy what I now call bad 45's -- and it was a department store. :-)

Shopped at downtown Daytons many times when we lived there. Walked the skywalks and stayed comfortable even in 20 below.

Wow, that's sad... no more Marshall Field's on the 'Miracle Mile' in Chicago?

New England is losing the Filene's name to Macy's also.
