EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFPN) -- The purple force isn't just for joint operations at deployed locations.

Technicians with the 95th Aerospace Medical Squadron, the 95th Medical Operations Squadron and the 95th Medical Support Squadron here helped out a Marine detachment recently by making sure their physical examinations were current after returning from deployed locations.

"After the Marines had returned from a prolonged deployment, many of their physical exams had expired," said Lt. Col. James Elliott, commander of the 95th AMDS flight. "And because they currently have limited organic medical support, they requested our help in updating their physicals. We were glad to help out with this effort."

Originally, Navy physicians compiled personnel rosters and requirements for the Marines, who are from Marine Aircraft Group 46, Detachment Bravo, said Staff Sgt. Erik Mathiasen, a 95th AMDS aeromedical craftsmen. Colonel Elliott and Sergeant Mathiasen arranged for the required tests with several medical specialties.

The medical care they provided included immunizations, dental, annual physical exams and eye and hearing exams. The Edwards Airmen helped examine more than 40 Marines in less than one day.

“It was inspirational to see individuals from the various departments step up to ensure the health and well-being of the Marine Corps members," Sergeant Mathiasen said. "Each section was eager to help with whatever was needed."

Lt. Col. Bull Krueger, commander of the Marine detachment, said he was impressed by the support the Air Force medics provided the Marine reservists.

"The Air Force medical staff came out in great numbers and did a great job getting us through and meeting our medical requirements," Colonel Krueger said. "They were motivated and happy to support our needs."
