CNN's "American Morning" host Soledad O'Brien said Tuesday that Hurricane Katrina evacuees housed at the Superdome were worse off than beheading victims in Baghdad.
The normally mild-mannered newswoman offered the overwrought observation while speaking at Redbook Magazine's "Movers and Shakers" awards luncheon in New York.
According to the New York Daily News, O'Brien blurted out:
"It is a sad thing to watch military veterans cry as they tell you the beheadings in Baghdad were less horrific than what they saw as 30,000 people marched from the Superdome through a shopping mall and onto buses to who knows where."
Ms. O'Brien didn't identify the veterans who told her that Katrina victims would have been better off being beheaded.
Just another "journalist" raised by Oprah.
Glad to see CNN's still got its flawless sense of perspective...
The title of this article is incorrect.
I don't like it when liberals pull this kind of thing, so what is a conservative publication doing this for?
The title should say CNNer: veterans claimed Katrina evac worse than Iraq beheadings
She didn't say it was her own opinion that the beheadings were worse. She is saying that veterans claimed it was. Now at face value we should doubt what she is saying and question her sources and truth of her reporting. It sounds ridiculous.
"30,000 people marched from the Superdome through a shopping mall and onto buses to who knows where"
For heaven's sake, Soledad, get a grip! We do know they're not headed for the gas ovens, they won't end up in mass graves, and they're not going to be beheaded. They're going somewhere safe and dry, and if they can't figure out where they are, someone will tell them. These "newscasters" ought to dial down the hysteria just a bit.
Welcome to FR.
I saw a lady with a severe hangnail yesterday. Of course my immediate reaction was she would have been better off being beheaded in Iraq.
Dear God the MSM is evil personified.
Veterans "crying" at the sight of thousands of people marching out of the Superdome to buses that would take them to points unknown.?? Fool me once, shame on you.
And they wonder why their industry is collapsing.
Overwrought?
You got to be dumber than a sockful of rocks to even think that incompetently!
What planet is Soledad from?
Geez, were they thinking those busses were taking them to Auschwitz?
Man, if only I could be beheaded in Iraq; that would be so much better than having to cope with anything!
But just think, FEMA did nothing about the situation.
Very true BUT she cites as "sources" unidentified military personnel. Somehow, though ONE person may have said it, it certainly would not be the feelings of most military that people going without food and water for a relatively short period of time would be worse off than persons who have been beheaded.
These people are SO outraged by what happened in New Orleans, but somehow simply "yawn" and move on when we see Iraqi children blown up by terrorists, people beheaded on camera, or mass graves filled with Saddam's citizens.
Any background on this...who might have said it ?
