Good morning, NN. I was just catching up on the prior thread. Don't know what to say other than good grief. It is beginning to look like the evacuation problems may be the Achilles heel here. Hours on the highway and running out of gas with cars breaking down. Not good.
Big shift north. Looks like this is going to hammer NOLA with rain.
OK, who's in charge of tracking news reports and FEMA activities for the after-storm timeline?
My daughter just called from the road. She, her husband, and baby left their home in Houston at 8:00 p.m., last night. Nine hours later, they had logged forty miles on the odometer. She is still on I-10, ultimately headed for Austin.
She reports lots of vehicles dead on the side of the road, presumably out of gas, no gas available at service stations, and some squabbles and fights at the stations that do have fuel. Gonna be a long day for anyone still contemplating getting out.
I was going to leave this morning but found out about the traffic. It is the worst it could be. In my area, from the 610 loop on 290 to Fairfield it will take 11 hours. This is probably about 30 miles. People are running out of gas and it is sickening. It will also be 100 degrees again today so cars will be overheating too.
The newscasters last night were saying if you could get out then you need to get out. Now they are saying you need to reconsider because of the traffic. My brother has been trying to head to San Antonio since 4 am and he is turning around and going back home because of the traffic. It is a nightmare!
Pray for Houston and the people on the roads.
We are expecting 6 evacuees from Houston sometime today. They leave at 11am (central)and we doubt we'll see them before 8pm. Usually it's a 3-4 four hour drive.
Gosh I hope the idiots they are interviewing on Fox that are refusing to leave Galveston island survive this baby. Why would anyone not get out of the way of a freight train like this one...
OH my word.....Rita is actually already starting to look better.
If this is the case, she may have extremely short ERC cycles that won't really weaken her.
I hope I am wrong, but others are noting she is already looking better over at easternwx.
