Roberts nominated 13-5 vote
C-span 3 | 21 Sept 2005 | EDCOIL

Posted on 09/22/2005 9:52:02 AM PDT by edcoil

I am watching a Cspan 3 of the vote. Hard to read the screen but it looks like a 12 to 5 vote for Roberts to be Chief Justice.

The next person, whoever it is, will face hell.

All because the RATs have to save face with their kook base. Did you see the scathing comment Ralph Neas wrote about Leahy's vote?? Whewee!

I say Bush should go for broke on the nomination and put up a solid conservative. AND he and Cheney should put the message out to Frist and the R's on the Gang of 14 they'd darned well better stick to their guns.

Like you, I remain unconvinced on the soundness and reliability of the Gang.

At least with Ted Nugent we'd have someone decidedly pro-gun!

Kennedy voted "No," because when they asked whether or not he wanted to "Confirm" he thought they were asking him "Teddy, with all the booze, can your Mr. Happy ever get "firm," so he honestly said, "No"

I guess Leahy drew the short straw.

NO votes
Kennedy, E. (MA)
Biden, J. (DE)
Feinstein, D. (CA)
Schumer, C. (NY)
Durbin, R. (IL)

There's a real rogues' gallery.

Hmmm. I had assumed that Schumer would vote to approve him, based on his closing statement during the hearing. I guess I was wrong.

Schumer said on O'Reilly a week ago or so that Roberts was a "mainstream conservative" and that he would probably vote him.

Either he was lying all along, or in the end he just couldn't stop himself from pandering to PFAW and the abortion on demand lobby.

You may have a point re: Feingold and Kohl's "Yes" votes for Roberts. Wisconsin has about a 35% Catholic population, and conservative Catholics have made a point to note that some of the Democratic rhetoric against Roberts crossed the line into "know-nothing land".

To all:

I just cut and pasted it right out of CSPANs website. Errors are theirs, not mine.

His first name is, I believe, Edward and goes by Ted or Teddy. Again, CSPAN info, not mine.

Personally, I think the President ought to nominate William Bennett or Ted Nugent.

Ted Nugent would never be confirmed after writing that "I'm A Bad American" brief.
