You may be confusing Herb Kohl (D-WI) with Jon Kyl (R-AZ).
Feingold is from CA...
Biden comes across as a man who wants to tell everyone what they want to hear -- a big brown nose. Well, a brown nose uutil he's dealing with someone powerless - then I'll bet he's a real jerk. Biden's type's so common he's almost a walking a cliché.

Catholic thing. I think it has alot to do with the catholic vote in Wisconsin. I must admit I am surprised since Feingold usually is on the loony left.

I think it actually helps the good guys to have democrates vote against Roberts. If they can't show they'll support a man a large majority of America believes is qualified for the Supreme Court, then they lose credibility when they start whining about the President trying to divide the country with the next candidate. Personally, I think the President ought to nominate William Bennett or Ted Nugent. What's he gonna do...lose the support of the dems?
Democrats who vote 'yes' on Roberts (Leahy, Feingold, et al) do so for only one reason: so that they can pose as moderate and reasonable when the next nominee comes down the pike.... any conservative nominated next will now be smeared with "Well I was willing to support Judge Roberts, but now this guy/gal is a real EXTREMIST...." The 'Rats are merely positioning themselves for the next fight, which will be a bloodbath.
I think Kohl has an election year coming up (I am from Wisconsin and ashamed I don't know this) and Feingold had a close battle with a very conservative candidate back in 04. Also Bush barely lost this state.
It is very obvious Feingold and Kohl are trying to come across as moderates when they are among the biggest libs in the senate. Both of them voted against the partial birth abortion ban which resulted in a recall effort.
I hate to admit it, but we're just as, or more, shameful here in NY with Chuckie and Mrs. Clinton.
It's Herb Kohl of Wisconsin. Must have been some pressure on the Wisconsin senators from back home.

Feingold was at Harvard Law School with Roberts. Maybe they're pals ?
Feingold is in a state that is on verge of going GOP. Same with Kohl.
IMO, Leahy is the token Lib vote. Twofold. Make the case Dems can vote for a Republican nominee, and to take a shot at Reid.
I can't help but enjoy that.
