Gov Blanco is now quicker about asking for help...she is running out of excuses.

I can't help wondering if Blanco's disinclination to ask for Federal, specifically National Guard, help in the early days of Katrina's threat had to do with the entrenched Democratic party's disdain and distaste for anything military, i.e. the persistent sense that anyone in uniform is stupid and evil.

They feel (because they never actually think) that Federal forces are evil and therefore aren't needed. Or at least until they have learned a costly lesson.

This woman makes me wild with her whining, complaining, bitching about anything and then demanding money....not asking, DEMANDING!! She is an abomination to the state of La., and the whole south. She should look westward at the great state of Texas and understand that not only did they bail her sorry a-- out, they got their people all out in record time before a possible killer storm surfaced, and did it in good order with all LOCAL officials working together. Lets just put the two states up and do some comparison work!!

Blanko is proof that it's easier to think on your feet THE SECOND TIME AROUND. It's like flunking a test and then going in the next day and taking the same test. She's a fraud and a failure.

sinclination to ask for Federal, specifically National Guard

The NG is under State direction, not Federal. She can have mutual assistance agreements with other states without the Feds even being involved. The Feds can Federalize the State NG if she ASKS or is in definace of Fed Authority. When Bush went down there, he offered her immediate deployment of reg US Military. She said she "needed 24 hours"to decide, she said THAT in front of Nagin. Don't get sucked in the AP media propaganda nonsense about the NG being under Fed command. They were not. They were, and are, under Blanco's orders. She is still refusing to turn control over NO to the Feds as of right now.

I just watched this woman deliver her press conference on Fox News, and was appalled by her delivery of the subject matter. She does not have a clue! She is acting just like a deer caught with lights in its eyes. If the people of Louisiana think she is going to lead the state through the recovery process, they will be sadly disappointed. If the POTUS gives this incompetent woman one penny without servere federal guidelines attached, then he needs his head examined.

The right course, of course, would be for the citizens of the state of Louisiana to rise up and throw her, Mayor Nagin, Senator Landrieu and Congressman William Jefferson out of office immediately. Anything less then that, will yield a Louisiana that will be much worse then it ever was. These Democrats could not manage a dog pound, and, although I made a significant contribution to the Red Cross to aid my fellow citizens in Louisiana, I will not give one cent more until they remove these Democrat failures from office.

Thanks for the distinction. (I plead ignorance on the local, state and federal relationships around an emergency.) My question is: Why was she so hesitant to request help when it most certainly would have been customary and sensible to do so? Could it have been an underlying, universally liberal antipathy toward anyone in uniform with a weapon?

Things which are needed in New Orleans:

And don't forget the "hot meals". They need roast duck under glass -- and they don't want it to be cold.

And babysitters are also needed -- to watch the kids, don't you know!

Funny how quickly she held her hand out for dollars, but when it came to saving lives she had to think about it for 24 hrs.

Madam, find another career and get out of our faces and our pockets.

If the people of Louisiana think she (Blanco) is going to lead the state through the recovery process, they will be sadly disappointed...

True enough. No money to LA without strict, supervised conditions.

I caught her lying arse last night claiming that LA had taken in hundreds of thousands of Texans fleeing Rita. Hell, the ugly munchkin could not handle NO victims from Katrina.

Blanco is a perpetual Chinese air raid warden, AKA circular grouping of fornicators.

Every $ request for any reason must prove to be sound and cost effective before appproval by the feds. Anything less is asking for an economic disaster

this cow was elected due to the fact that her opponent was Bobby Jindal....an "indian".......no matter his credentials. He Was a "button head"...meaning "red dot".

The old south democrats turned out in droves to keep a furriner out of the guv's mansion.

The guv is just a cajun lady that likes to tag along with her hubby on duck hunts so he can't take his girl friend along (i made that up) but really, she was and is just a pawn...she hasn't a clue and never will have.

When it gets down to it, the people are the reason.

"Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me."

Your VOTE really DOES Count. Don't give it to the idiots who intend on lining their own pockets and your expense.
