Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 7:39 p.m. EDT Bill Maher: Laura Bush Like 'Hitler's Dog'
HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher compared First Lady Laura Bush to "Hitler's dog" during his Friday night cablecast, after flashing a parody photo of Mrs. Bush with a black eye, as if she'd been a victim of domestic abuse.
After the photo display, Maher was challenged by guest panelist Christopher Hitchens, who told him: "It must be to [George Bush's] credit he got Laura Bush to marry him. She's an absolutely extraordinary woman."
To that, Maher replied: "Oh, come on. That's like Hitler's dog loved him. That is the silliest reason. ..."
"I think tomorrow you might be sorry you said that. Laura Bush is very gentle and talented," Hitchens warned.
With that Maher retreated a bit, insisting: "That's not what I'm saying, of course she is. But the idea that we somehow humanize any person because somebody else loves them is
ridiculous."
The outrageous exchange, reported exclusively by NewsMax contributor Steve Malzberg in his latest column, "Laura Bush and Hitler's Dog" - wasn't the worst to come from Maher's show lately.
The week before, "Real Time" guest George Carlin announced that he had a pet name for former first lady Barbara Bush.
"The Silver D - - - - e bag, I call her," Carlin announced as Maher's audience erupted in laughter.

I lost all respect for her when she brought MOJO to the Freeper Party, knowing he leads the most arrogant anti-Freeper site.

And Al Franken DID defeat her in Hartford that night, I am sick of trying to spin it, he did defeat her in that debate, she just sat there and didn't respond like we expected her to, I dont know why, but she didn't fare well.

Comedians come in categories.
Some can make you laugh without being vulgar. Those are the best! They are good for the culture. Sienfeld, and the older ones, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, Bob Hope. They make you proud to laugh.
Others must resort to base, shocking, vulgar, obscenty-laden speech in order to get a response. Maher is, as you say, a "toxic liberal" and he's certainly all about attracting this gutter-minded audience.
He's her friend? Nice. Just another reason for me to ignore her.

You are absolutely right... she just sat there and was not at all prepared to debate Franken's statements (which were the same old cliches we'd all heard before).
When Ann replied to Franken's remarks (I guess) she was trying to be funny or clever or something, but - in the end - she lost that "debate" big time. It really was impossible to defend some of the stupid and wild remarks she made that night to other non-conservatives or "moderates" whom we ran into at the post-show event. Ann lived right up to her stereotype by the left that night, and further convinced lefties in the audience that they were indeed on the "right" side by supporting Franken. You're right, Race... ya can't spin the fact that she undoubtedly had her clock cleaned by idiot Franken that night...
What a totally, nasty, hateful person Bill Maher is.

That statement is a true look into this guy's empty head. 'Humanize' George Bush. He's the most down to earth, normal guy to occupy the White House in a long, long time.
