Daughter of lesbian couple expelled
Women plan to protest outside Ontario Christian school

By Mason Stockstill, Staff Writer

ONTARIO - A Chino couple plans to picket a Christian school in Ontario on Monday because officials expelled their daughter after learning her parents are lesbians. Tina Clark said the superintendent of Ontario Christian High School gave her a letter explaining that 14-year-old freshman Shay Clark was being kicked out because her parents' sexual orientation is "inconsistent with a positive Christian life style."

"My sexual orientation should have nothing to do with her getting an education," Tina Clark said. "I'm the one that's gay. My daughter's not. Why should her civil rights be infringed?"

Shay was crushed by what happened earlier this week, which she said came as a surprise.

"I knew that I might have problems," Shay said. "But I never thought it would go that far."

Principal Tim Hoekstra and Superintendent Len Stob did not return repeated calls Thursday and Friday seeking comment. Phone calls to several school trustees also were not returned.

Clark and her partner, Mitzi Gray, have been together for 22 years. They didn't expect Shay would experience discrimination at the school because her older sister had attended Ontario Christian schools from sixth through ninth grade. Additionally, Shay said her friends knew she lived in a home with two mothers, and "it was never a problem."

On Tuesday, however, that changed. Gray said when she went to an unrelated parent meeting that Clark was unable to attend, school administrators were confused by her different last name.

The next day, both women were called in and asked point-blank if they were gay, Clark said. When they said they were, Shay was expelled.

"These are the same people that patted me on the back the Friday before that and asked me how my week had gone," Clark said.

The family's situation is not unusual, said Johnny Chagolla of the Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance, a gay-rights organization in San Bernardino. Often, he said, students at religious schools are more likely to face discrimination.

"In cases like this, there's a concern," Chagolla said. "A lot of (religious school officials) say they're very open and affirming, and then you see this, and it contradicts what they're saying."

A similar situation arose earlier this year at a Catholic school in Costa Mesa, when parents pressured administrators into barring gay parents after a gay couple enrolled their twin sons at the school.

Ontario Christian is affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church, a denomination that considers homosexuality a "condition of disordered sexuality," according to the Web site of the Christian Reformed Church of North America.

The church considers the act of homosexual sex to be a sin, which "must be condemned as incompatible with obedience to the will of God as revealed in scripture." However, according to the group's Web site, the church should help gay Christians and "give them support toward healing and wholeness."

As the family gathered outside the school for a news conference Friday, students and staff peered at the scene out of the windows. Receptionist Cory Overstreet said administrators would not be available to comment.

According to the letter signed by Stob, school officials were not aware of Clark and Gray's relationship at the time Shay was admitted.

But both women said that question was never asked, and that both of their names were included in all of the required paperwork.

"Had we known they were against homosexuality, we would never have sought this school out," Gray said. "It wasn't like we announced it to the world, but it wasn't a secret, either. We've always been a family."

Shay's educational future is unclear. At first, Clark had hoped there was a way Shay could return to Ontario Christian. But now, no one in the family backs that idea.

The family is looking for another private school Shay can attend, but the admissions process is typically long, and she might not get in anywhere this year. Public school will probably be the answer for now, Clark said. After she gets to a new school, the family may consider legal action, Clark said.

The expulsion was difficult for Shay, who said she is upset about being separated from her friends.

As for the school's leadership, "They should be embarrassed," Shay said.

The guidelines were not followed. Why should they allow the mommies to lie when they make the others obey their rules? I say good for the school.

Believe me, the other students knew that the day she enrolled. Students are that way. I would like to know what she said at that game that got the school's attention.

Here it comes...

Punish the child for the sin of the parent?
Doesn't sound very 'Christian' to me.

How old is the girl--14? I'll betcha anything that she has to sign a code of conduct form every year, just like her mommies. She is condoning a homosexual lifestyle, and she has born false witness. Nowhere is there ever any mention of the girl being at the school to get a Christian education. That was never the intention of the unrepenant mommies; as the girl herself states, she's upset about being separated from her friends; not from her Christian environment.

There was a chance to maybe redeem the mother. But now they acted like we always act, smug, self righteous and lacking in mercy.

Here you're right and you're wrong. You're wrong in applying this reasoning to the school. The unrepenant mommies are being smug and self-righteous, and as long as they remain unrepenant, they are blowing off any hope at redemption. As I said before, they love their sinful lifestyle more than they love the unfortunate girl.

And the school is the one that caused the problem.

The school did not approach this "family" and ask for the girl to be enrolled! In agreeing with the admissions policy, the mommies, and the mommies alone, caused this situation! They LIED in order to get the girl into a CHRISTIAN SCHOOL! And you think I'M being inconsistent? You're outta yer mind.

They did know, they deliberately kept it from the school. In fact the names were both on the form, but not as parents. When the girl started addressing crowds about "civil right" and the church, she was expelled. The activists slant on this story is astounding!! As usual they use the "feel so sorry for me and my sad face! I am just like you!" This is the strategy they have used all over the US, and unfortunately some in government fall for it.

Don't fall for this propaganda. The truth is, they knew the Christian school would not promote their lifestyle, nor would they permit their "daughter" to. And the Christian school will continue to teach the abomination as just what it is, and steer their students away from it.

As far as the rainbow guy saying the church should be understanding, well yes, and they are, once a homosexual is open to leaving the lifestyle, they get all the support they could ever need. Not until.

This is a tough issue. Jesus did hang out with sinners (good thing, maybe HE will hang out with me, despite my sin-- although not the sin of homosexuality). But Jesus saw sin for what it is, SIN... wrongful behavior. He also said to the woman at the the well to go and sin NO MORE.

So, I believe we should not hesitate to bring the gospel of Christ to all who will hear, and not judge them. At the same time, however, we should shield our children from perversion, especially the young ones. It is not fair to have to explain why this child has "two mommies." The school is within its rights, and I guess those rights were properly exercised.

How do you think these "mommies" would respond to "Go and sin no more."????

I will tell you for him/her. We all sin, we also confess those sins, and stop committing them. These people are advocating living sin, actually an abomination, and proclaiming it normal, healthy, and Christian behavior to boot. It is also what they are teaching this girl they call their daughter. BIG difference!

You right........to a point. But the girl is 14, not a tiny child, and she was speaking to the crowd at the football game, which is what finally got her expelled. Now it doesn't take a lot of imagination to guess what she was speaking of. One only needs t hear what her "mothers" say in this article to know. It's not about civil rights, it's about the school having a signed policy, stating where the school stands on the issue, and they are not going to change that policy, nor should they. If the girl was there for the purpose of being saved, she would have had the opportunity. She wasn't.

There is no harm, but nobody in this media is going to tell you if the girl was witnessed to, and being it's a Christian school I am sure she was. If she advocates on behalf of the two women she lives with, tries to "open the eyes" of others, which I strongly suspect is the case, how can a Christian school permit that???

Forget all this...are the moms hot?

Unless you're a lesbian it doesn't matter.

On second thought, never mind. Too many fellow males have told me "I'm a lesbian", with subsequent explanations that are too vulgar to post.

"Ya, gotta wonder why the lesobs would send their daughter to a freakin' Christian school to begin with."

I wonder if it is a Michael Noudow (sp?) tactic? Use your kid to assault another American institution that is humming along minding its own business.

Why should her civil rights be infringed?

Why is it that the gay "community" can't get through their thick skulls, that their actions do affect others?

Their narcissism and failure to recognize that is part of their "disorder."

Actually I think it's a little more insidious than that. They want to change society into one that suits them. People who vote to support their agenda, with a fresh supply of willing sex partners, and subservient heteros.

I'm not saying that these particlar ones have that in mind; but the homosexual activists and radicals who call the shots cerainly do. Along with the rest of the marxist, secularist, feminist, ACLU loving dogs.

(Sorry for the insult to dogs.)

IF THE DAUGHTER said that there is nothing wrong with my moms gayness then she would be in violation of the agreement she made.

I posted this to you last night. The kids own words: As for the school's leadership, "They should be embarrassed," Shay said.
