Not an expert by any stretch - but doesn't this look like Rita has headed back out over the Gulf and formed 2 smaller storms? Is the water warm enough for these storms to intensify? Not to mention there appears to be a tropical wave or depression coming up the same path as the last few hurricanes. Comments/Observations would be appreciated.
Damn those Japs and their hurricane magnets!
Japs?? I thought it was the Karl Rove "Ronco Hurricane 3000 Generator".
Satellite view is very interesting - could be an interesting weather week.
Good Lord I hope not. I've had all the fun I can stand.
Look at the last frame on this loop. Sure looks like she's split and reforming. http://www.eglin.af.mil/weather/tropics.html
Last time I saw Rita, she was headed across Michigan in the back of a pickup truck.
Something tells me that I'm going to have an eventful week sailing through the Caribbean next month. :0(
Looks like she dropped weight and brought her sister back with her.
Interesting read..looking forward to comments from the science/meteorological types here..
If she does reform will she get a new name or will it stay Rita?
As a Houstonian I am not too thrilled with the BIGGER thing lurking and swirling below Cuba...
Great article - thanks for the link - I have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach that we're going to hear the term "loop current" a lot this week.
Ahh... well, at least that exonerates Rove and Bush, right???
She would remain Rita. Ivan did that and they had to rename the remnant storm Ivan.
I'd be more concerned about the disturbance in the central Caribbean once it gets further west.
Unless they're trying to steal the spotlight back away from Cindy (please arrest me) Sheehan.
