What a coinkidink! Shepard Smith is preparing an investigation on 'paper officers', up to 450 of them, within the NOPD. And the chief hits the silk on the very same day.
Get his passport, kids.

FBI hot on Nagin's trail . . . Tony Snow must be really onto something with all the "phantom" cops on the payroll . . . explains the oddly timed trips to Vegas for cops . . . a shell game to make it look like there really were as many cops on the force as payroll would indicate . . .

Anyone want to guess how many indictments we see because of Hurricane Katrina? It is exposing massive corruption.

So if I get this right ... Nagin has been gaining more federal funds or other funds by saying there were more cops on the payroll than there actually were. Yikes!

Tony Snow reported on his show that they (I believe the FBI ) is investigating the NOPD members that names are on the books. Of the 500 they have checked, only 80 of them actually exist.
Looks like they were padding the books.
Pretty easy to have those 100,000 police officers that Clinton called for when it looks like quite a few of them don't even exist.

In a horrible way, maybe katrina will actually benefit LA. Perhaps it will get rid of the corruption. Of course, people have gone to prison before in LA and the corruption continued.

Anyone want to guess how many indictments we see because of Hurricane Katrina? It is exposing massive corruption. Any wonder why Blanko did everything possible to keep the Feds out of the Big Easy? 800 dead people didn't bother her. Shining the light of day on her "election machine" did.

Wow...kind of puts everything that happened in a different light. Maybe Nagin and Blanco aren't as dumb as they look and act...as Katrina approached they hatched a media savvy plan...blame George W. Bush and his FEMA. Yeah, thats the ticket...the media will run around in circles pointing finger at W and no one will 'notice' why things really went to hell.

ANyone know how Tony Snow broke this story? Did someone in the FBI tell him or how did he discover it.
To: RummyChick
Oh, yes. And other inner cities are watching...big cleanups all over the country IMO.
To: hawkaw
Yep, right to Clinton's 100,000 more cops on the street . . . that's a gob of Federal money (our money) in somebody's pocket in N.O. . .
Definitely a 3rd World country down there. Time for serious clean up.
To: Dog
450 cops salary is a huge chunk of change....who was getting the money. I wonder how much overtime these guys were pulling in????
Not sure if it is true but one poster said that the guy who was somehow in charge of all these names committed suicide.

Whoa! But not surprising. A & E had an "Investigative Reports" with Bill Kurtis on this morning called "Cops or Criminals", ABOUT the NOPD. It was pre-Katrina and a scathing condemnation of all the corruption within the PD. I missed the first half, but it is re-airing at 2 P.M. on the west coast.
