I wish they would stop guessing .. they haven't gotten it right yet

Though, I am hoping for Janice Rogers Brown

Not only would she be a great pick .. the Dems would have a stroke :0)

From 1995 until 2000, she was chair of the Texas Lottery Commission.

WOW! What a resume! Almost as good as Mike Brown's stint at the Arabian Horse Association. Is Brown a candidate for the SCOTUS as well?

This has got to be a smokescreen. If Bush really nominated this lightwight nobody over Janice Rogers-Brown, he would be worthy of impeachment. I don't believe this for a minute.

When did her epiphany take place - she is obviously a floor crosser.

This is a clever attempt by the WH to deflect the MSM's attention away from DeLay and bring the spotlight back on the WH.

It's the AP via CNN via Drudge.

Strike one, strike two and strike three.

If I were in the Whitehouse I'd leak that it will be Mike Brown...just to mess with 'em.

Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson...and W. can say "because he's just so cool" as he gives them that cowboy wink and swaggers off!

That would be awesome; reporter heads would "blow up real good!"

No judicial experience is the disqualifying factor.

No, it's not a disqualification. She's a lawyer (as a matter of fact, I don't know for sure you even have to BE a lawyer to qualify for the USSC). The purpose of being on the Supreme Court is to interpret the constitution as it apples to various cases. She must have been pretty good at her job or she wouldn't have been selected to be the head of the Texas Bar Association.

I'm looking for a strict constructionist. If someone is a strict constructionist that's all we need because if it's not written in the constitution, it's not covered. PERIOD.

From that article:
Miers's reticence is not to be mistaken for a lack of assertiveness or ambition. Rather, friends and associates say, it reflects her scrupulous discretion and selflessness -- the same qualities that propelled her rise through the legal ranks and into President Bush's inner circle.

........snip

"Harriet Miers is a trusted adviser on whom I have long relied for straightforward advice," Bush said at the time. "Harriet has the keen judgment and discerning intellect necessary to be an outstanding counsel."

,,,,,,,,,snip

Working with her staff of 13 lawyers, and in cooperation with the Justice Department, Miers's office provides guidance on issues from the legal parameters for the war on terrorism to presidential speeches. Her office also takes the lead in vetting and recommending candidates for the federal judiciary, all the way up to the Supreme Court.

.............snip

If Miers encountered any gender bias along the way, she is not one to talk about it. "She is one of those people who just decides, 'I'm going to do a good job and good work and good results will win out over any biases people may have,' " said Clements, a fellow female lawyer who regards Miers as a trailblazer. "She just overcame any obstacles with hard work and dedication and being a very good trial lawyer."

I'm hoping too. Harriet Miers looks like O'Connor O'Connor 10 years ago. Is she a devoted methodist?

It's interesting. I've been talking to friends and doing some research. She is a member of both a Jewish Women's Group AND a Christian Women's group. People who know say she is NOT a strict Conservative, but IS Pro-Life. Stay tuned.

BTW, the poster making light of her service overseeing the lottery board have no clue what they are talking about. The Texas Lottery Board was full of corruption. She was brought in to clean it up. She did. That was simply one position she has held.

She is qualified. She is a brilliant woman. The question remains, is she an Originalist? That answer I can not answer. That may be the point.

Good post.
She sounds like an O'Connor-in-waiting.
And that's not good.

"Drudge does this to increase his "hits" also. If you keep trying, he keeps increasing his "readers"."

No because he tallies unique visitors seperately.

That's not good! We could miss the opportunity to place a conservative over there for decades.
