Excerpt from transcript of tonight's Paula Zahn yack show on CNN......
GRIFFIN (voice-over): It could be the single worst moment in the history of the New Orleans Police Department. And it centers on what happened at this Canal Street hotel. The night New Orleans flooded, Osman Khan says 70 officers moved into his Amerihost Inn and Suites; 62 of them then went out to fight the looters and thugs. But eight officers, he says, began a four-day-long looting spree of their own.
OSMAN KHAN, HOTEL MANAGER: Oh, yes. They would probably leave around 9:00, 10:00 at night and come back around 4:30 in the morning.
GRIFFIN (on camera): And what did you see them come back with?
KHAN: Oh, everything from Adidas shoes to Rolex watches.
GRIFFIN: Just lots of it?
KHAN: Oh, lots of it.
GRIFFIN (voice-over): Camped out on the 10th floor of the hotel, the hotel engineer, Perry Emery, says the eight officers were drinking almost all of the time. He says, when he came up to the 10th floor to bring towels and to check on water pressure, he saw firsthand what they had looted.
PERRY EMERY, HOTEL ENGINEER: I guess jewelry or generators, fans. And, one time, they went out and they came back with a bunch of weapons.
GRIFFIN: The generator, says Khan, was this one, stolen, he says, as he watched, from a hospital next door.
(on camera): And they stole this from a hospital?
KHAN: They stole it from Tulane Hospital, correct.

Yep...we even have "not great" stories already here.
Great reason to spend 2-400 billion on new digs eh?
Heh heh. I saw him live when he was just starting to get popular. He was quite personable, and stuck around after the show to sign autographs and chat with fans.
"Yep...we even have "not great" stories already here."
I'm not surprised at all.
It was a shame, too.
They had to turn out good folks because of how some behaved.
"Great reason to spend 2-400 billion on new digs eh?"
I wouldn't go that far. ;o)
I saw him at LSU in '79, I think.
There have been only a few other times when I have laughed so hard.
He's a riot!
was the original e-mail made up or not?
According to that JFP article, the original email was a fakery.
did you see those JFP chatroom contents?
is that the Fondren contingent?
i used to know a girl who writes for them....big lefty
the e-mail I saw was Johnston not Johnson
Yes. The Fondren crowd is suicidally Left-leaning and proud of it.
They seem to believe that living near the ghetto is evidence of intelligence, open-mindedness and (of course) moral superiority. But in reality, it's just an exciting flirtation with danger.
None of them have the cojones to go full-bore and actually live IN the ghetto. On a visceral level, they must know moral superiority isn't worth much six feet under.
btw, it strikes me that there's some analogy between extreme sports addicts and Fondren residents. What do you think?
(1) I participate in extreme sports to feel more alive. B/c I am more alive than you, I am better than you. I find exhiliration in things that make others tremble.
(2) I live in Fondren to feel more alive. Because I am more alive than you I am better than you. I find exhiliration living where others are afraid to live.
I knew the great-grandson of the founding Fondrens. He lived for hunting season...sort of a survivalist type.
The family cam from Bude where we used to go turkey hunt.
The second generation parents were killed in a car wreck as I recall.
They also owned a a lot of the land that Leland Speed Sr bought Eastover from....and the State woods by at Ridgewood and Lakeland.
actually somewhere on Farish between Monument and Fortification...hell, that was ruff even in my day
This may be a blessing in disguise. NO has a chance to truly clean up its Police Department. I hope the City will take advantage of this opportunity.
