DEFILLO: We get a lot of complaints about property being found in homes that had been abandoned, property that has been stolen. And, of course, police officers have to respond to those complaints. When they arrive at these different situations, they have to take this property and place it somewhere. So, for the average person to see a police officer walking out of a home with property, they may believe something else is occurring, but actually the officer is doing his job -- his or her job.

"Yeah Hi! NOPD? Yeah I just want to complain that somebody has left a variety of valuable items in this abandoned building I just happenned to be passing through. Maybe I'm a little too suspicious but by the looks of the items, some not even out of their original packaging, price tags attached, I think that these items may have been stolen.

Please take care of this issue or I will be forced to complain again and/or fence these items."

I almost couldn't believe my ears when DeFillo was trying to explain the breaking down of doors and removing items from locked homes of evacuees as gathering evidence.

Sure, I believe him.
