Did you notice how the president switched from the red power tie, to the soft/peaceful blue at the actual swearing in? Guess he wanted the Chief Justice to have the power today. Also, did everyone see how FORCEFUL Judge Roberts put his hand on the Bible? I thought he was gonna make his wife drop it.
If you didn't see it today, watch it here:

Where was Justice Scalia?
I feel fo ryou with your adopted daughter seeking out her birth "Mother". I understand that this is a common desire, although since the birth Mother gave her up for adoption and signed sealed papers, I sometimes wonder about the validity of any child sekking to break open the records.
I have a friend who found her birth Mother, after 3 years of working on it. She found out that whle her birth Mother was dirt poor and unmarried when she had her, she subsequently married, and married someone with a goo dincome. They have 4 children together and these children had creature comforts that my friend had never experienced as a child and had only obtained for herself, by putting herself through College and with a very good job.
I watched as my friend dealt with the issures of 4 kids who "got everything including her Mother" but she didn't. and it wasn't an easy time for her.
Then when she finally got to meet her Mother, she was in a home with Alzheimer's and couldn't asnwer any of the quesiton that my friend had so wanted to ask.
I have to say that watching my friend, i thought it ws an awful time, a time during which she had to forgive her Mother for not only abandoning her, but for then, when she was so well-off in her marriage, of not wanting to find the child she had given up for adoption and havig her as part of the family she now had.
It was very sad, and very difficlt time for my friend.
She finally admitted, that if she had it to over again, she would not have pursued it to the extent she had, making it a 3-year obsession, and then finding so many disappointments came with it.
I hope your daughter has a better time of it, but I would offer this up - caution her that her birth Mother gave her up for adoption for a reason, whatever that reason was' it was valid at the time, and circumstances might have changed, - like they had for my friend's birth Mother, and there might be further issues of abandonment and loss of hpe to deal with.
I feel for you. You have been her "mother", not the person who gave birth to her.
Indeed.
Before the results of today and the consequent relief on her face, with me knowing nothing of Mrs. Roberts, I had wondered what had brought her and CJ Roberts together because he is so upbeat and she seemed so down. Honestly, I had thought she looked depressed. Today's photos were a welcome sight.
I was wondering the same thing.
I particularly enjoyed "The War on Terror, inside the Bush WH" (or something like that)
I watched the WA gov. race and was very disappointed in the way that ended. Courts admitting it was riddled by fraud, but an oh well, better luck next time ruling.
Me too. that is why I am trying to learn as much as I can about election methods here and other countries. We must do something about this or we are going to lose in 2008
(Isn't MORON the 'reporter' that 'told' the President he would just be in the way in Texas (after all, it was only about the photo op any way) . . . HEY TERRY, 71% of Gallup respondents APPROVE of the President's handling of Rita -- IN YOUR FACE!!!)
That was David Gregory who said that to the President. He and MORON run a close race as to which one is the dumbest and most undesirable person to listen to.
FWIW, I think these kinds of things are much. much harder on the spouse and family of the nominee than the nominee themselves. A nominee can brush it off as a part of the job. The spouse has to watch someone they love get beaten up, knowing full well any indiscretion in their own past might be used against their loved one.
As hard as it was for Clarence Thomas, I'll never forget his wife's face. Horrible.
Mrs. Roberts was probably extremely worried about what might happen. I Don't forget, everything from her life, to the circumstances involving her children ran the risk of being twisted, pummeled and abused during these hearings and vote. 'm sure that now she's just glad it's over and they all came out unscathed.
But hillary says it's WRONG and keeps minorities from voting, if they have to show ID. Of course it does, but not in the way she tries to portray it. They can't cheat as easy with IDs and that's why the dems pitch a fit about it..
Hillary gave a speech and specifically mentioned the state of Georgia when making that comment. She said people would have to pay $20, $25 and $30 to get an ID in that state, when in fact, Georgia said they would NOT charge for it and they would even go to the person's home to take the pic for the ID.
I agree .. it seems melancholy to me .. and I don't know why, but I find it disconcerting.
Thanks, snugs ... hope all is well with you and your folks. Tomorrow is a sleep in, no work day ... YAY!
No exit poll announcements.
No calling a state before all polls across the nation are closed, including HI and AK.
Stop the inane media coverage beginning at 6. Why they have the talking heads spinning away when polls on the west coast still have hours left to vote?
I think we need voter ID and purple fingers!
Good. We have to get lots of people to understand this.
Agreed! Let me know if I can help in any other way.
Souter too!
