CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Family members of 5-year-old Evelyn Miller appeared before a secret grand jury Thursday at the federal courthouse in Cedar Rapids. But what was asked and why, no one will say.
It was at least the second time this month that some people who knew Evelyn have been questioned by the federal grand jury. A grand jury can hear evidence to decide if charges should be filed.
Evelyn disappeared from her rural Floyd home early on July 1. After a search involving hundreds of volunteers, her body was found on July 6 along the Cedar River about two miles north of Charles City.
Her death has been ruled a homicide, but no charges have been filed in her death either in Floyd County or federal court and little information about the investigation has been released.
According to KCRG-TV9, the grand jury convened at about 9 a.m. Thursday. Noel Miller left the courthouse with an unidentified friend at about 2:15 p.m. She said her attorney told her not to talk about the case.
Noel Miller's mother, Diane Miller, and sister, Alithya Runyan, left together at about 3 p.m. They were told in the grand jury not to say anything to the media because it could interfere with the investigation, according to KCRG.
Casey Frederiksen, Noel Miller's fiance, was not seen going in or coming out of the federal courthouse on Thursday. Frederiksen was at home with Evelyn and her two younger brothers while Noel Miller worked the night the 5-year-old disappeared, but said he was asleep and didn't hear anything.

"But what was asked and why, no one will say."
And that is unsurprising, given that grand jury testimony is strictly secret, no?
Still, there's always the chance a reporter will find one of those "special" people who simply can't bear to keep their yaps shut.
Andy Christie was on On The Record with Greta Van Sustern on Fox News at about 9:50 PM Thursday. He seemed weak and confused.
Poor Evelyn had the most despicable parents.
According to the FNC Web site, the show should repeat at 2 AM CDT. So, I'll set the recorder.
Is Noel still standing by her "man"?
If my daughter had been murdered I would either be so pissed-off that they would hve to keep locked up or just like Andy I would be "weak and confused" I probuly wouldnt even be able to speak in coherent sentences
I PROBABLY would HAVE spelled better though :)
For what it's worth, Andy Christie sounded okay to me, just maybe a bit nervous to be on national TV in a telephone interview with Greta.
