This doesn't even TOUCH on the REAL reason for the 2nd Amendment (controlling our government's excesses through the application of continuous well-founded fear of the people to the background subconscious of our elected representatives and the members of the bureaucracy)

I read that and had to repeat it. Some folks just need to wake up and smell the coffee. Thanks.

Also, when the founding fathers wrote that all American citizens should have the right to bear arms, there was no such thing as an automatic weapon. Guns that shot more than one bullet per pull of the trigger were not around.

I beg to differ.

There also were no carbines.

But there were cannons and grapeshot. Old time assault weapons. Ha Ha Ha.

The first shot is to stop the person, the follow ons are to protect me and stop appeals.

Automatic weapons are over rated unless you are talking about machine guns like the M-240. Rifles like the M-16 on full auto simply waste good ammunition if you are over 20 meters away. Full automatic has such few practical purposes with shoulder fired rifles.

7.62 x 51 M-240

Now sound suppressed rifles are something very practical. Too bad they are heavily regulated.

Yeah, automatic weapons do consume a lot of ammo, but they sure are fun. I still remember sitting in the gunner's seat of a tank and watching through the periscope as the tracers from my coax went downrange. Then it was up to the commander's hatch to press the butterfly on old Ma Deuce. Later on came other weapons -- the M60 machine gun, the AK-47, and the M3 "grease gun, among others.

Yep, hosing lead is wasteful, but it is the most fun a guy can have wearing clothes.
