Pentagon charges Army officer

WASHINGTON - An officer who has claimed that a classified military unit identified four Sept. 11 hijackers before the 2001 attacks is facing Pentagon accusations of breaking numerous rules, charges his lawyer says are aimed at hurting his credibility.

The alleged infractions by Army Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, 42, include obtaining a service medal under false pretenses, improperly flashing military identification while drunk and stealing pens, according to paperwork from the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency shown by his attorney to The Associated Press.

Shaffer was one of the first to publicly link Sept. 11 leader Mohamed Atta to the unit code-named Able Danger. Shaffer was one of five witnesses the Pentagon ordered not to appear Sept. 21 before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The military revoked Shaffer's top security clearance this month, a day before he was supposed to testify to a congressional committee.

Mark Zaid, Shaffer's attorney, said he can't prove the Pentagon went after Shaffer because he's a whistleblower, but "all the timing associated with the clearance issue has been suspiciously coincidental."

Citing concerns with the privacy act, a Defense Intelligence Agency spokesman declined to release any information on Shaffer.

So this is how this hero is rewareded by the system he try's to protect. Sometimes it's a wonder how we can recruit brave men into a system that will screw them in a New-York second.

The real issue here is the the gov is pissed that someone made public the practice of data mining using "public" data Everyone gets up in arms about the gov having databases and tracking citizens so they just pay corporations to access their databases eg visa, mastercard and poof no warrant required. I have no problem with the military/CIA using any tool that have to bring down the jihad joes that are not US citizens but just think what a Hillary admin could do with those tools in the war on the vast right wing conspiracy

I better go bury that box of Skilcrafts I brought home from Korea...We need to flood the legal system to help out the good LTC, so let me be the first to step forward and openly confess that while on Active Duty in the US Army, yes, I took some pens.

This is my pen. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Hell, the only reason the government even needs to do data mining across all citizens is because it's forbidden by anti-American Leftist notions that forbid <whisper> profiling Muslims from terrorist-sponsoring nations </whisper>.

So, in short, the Leftists are the ones working overtime to make sure we're still vulnerable to terrorist attack. And many Republicans, unfortunately, are all too willing to oblige the Leftists with this insanity by assenting to it when we're the frickin' majority.

And stealing pens....!!!!!

They really are digging deep!

The problem is when one finds oneself in a hole one should stop digging. (Hint to Pentagon!)
