I read the quote, but I can not tell if she opposed the adoption of the pro-abortion stance because she is pro-life or if she believed a vote was the only appropriate way for the ABA to adopt any stance.
A Bush nomination is being opposed? My God! I'm shocked I tell you, Shocked!

No, Souter did not have these groups come out against him.
"If she rules strictly by the constitution and stays nuetral on abortion (meaning she would take the stance that it is strictly a state by state issue - and the feds need to get out of it). I will consider her a successful nomination."
Me too. But you know, one issue, pro-life voters have one thing right: if you're willing to kill a bady, what post should you be trusted with? There are exceptions to the rule, of course. But there is something fundamentally flawed about pro-death people. FRegards....
"Rogers Brown languishing while the Dem/Media coalition sandbags her does nothing to stop the slaughter you speak of."
She can languish while Bork gets recess appointed. Fear of conflict is very inhibiting to thought.
She also is very, very dedicated to her clients. She goes completely selfless during a trial, in the true Christian tradition. Maybe you're right. =] FRegards....
Planned parenthood opposed Souter.
I would have preferred neutrality.
Souter? Interesting that you bring up that name. PP also opposed him.
Supposedly, she did a lot of work with Exodus International.

No indication here. This group hates everyone.
Did you also "approve" when PP opposed Souter's confirmation?
As someone else on this thread said, PP would oppose a ham sandwich. I was more commenting on the great gnashing of teeth on FR this morning over a person no one here knew of before 7:30 AM.
"if she believed a vote was the only appropriate way for the ABA to adopt any stance":
More from my quote: 'After a contentious debate, the policy-making body of the American Bar Association voted to take a pro-abortion rights position at the organization's annual meeting... "People who support this abortionrights resolution want the prestige of the ABA behind the pro-choice movement," Texas bar President Harriet Miers said Monday, arguing against adoption of the resolution supporting abortion rights.'
She opposed the resolution itself, she did not just call for a vote by the whole membership. According to your post she raised that issue the next year: "In 1993, after the ABA had voted... ".
Thanks for the clarification.
You're right. H. W. Bush didn't know him. Souter was recommended by John Sununu, Bush's chief of staff. And Bush went with him because he was not interested in a confirmation fight. Sununu picked him because he was a total unknown, a cipher and would'nt make waves. He was described in the media at the time as a backwoods recluse who lived by himself.
....Strange.
What a unbelievable nightmare he has proved to be. Not only is he decidedly liberal, he is breathtakingly vapid.
"Well, at least she is opposed by all the right people."
Would you care to think before you post?
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had urged the administration to consider Miers, two congressional officials said.
$1,000 to Lloyd Bentsen Re-election Committee
$1,000 to Albert Gore Jr. for President Committee
$1,000 to Democratic National Committee
There was a time not long ago that you couldn't get elected dog catcher in the south if you were a Republican. Republicans were liberals and southern Democrats were conservative.
Since you are from Alabama you must know this. I lived there in the late 60's and everyone was a Democrat then. The Republicans were damn Yankees.
So the fact she contributed to the Democrats 20 years ago is meaningless. IMO.
This is either a good thing , or a smoke screen. I choose it to be a good thing.
